I was kidding. I saw that report though. Very impressive.@High Performance Lubricants 0W-8 might be a sensible choice, given their superior formulations. It's been done before, albeit not in a turbocharged engine:

The SL Castrol is, but the PP is nowhere local.Pennzoil Euro L 5W-30 or Castrol Edge A3/B4 (Euro) 5W-30 should be on Walmart shelf.
Thought about it, but too much $$ for a 5k oil change. I will not go long interval on this car. That last 8-9k interval was unintentional.Redline? High performance lubricants?
Especially since your opening premise was to save money.Thought about it, but too much $$ for a 5k oil change. I will not go long interval on this car.
Any more recommendations? Oil change next week so if it's something esoteric, ( not on WM shelves)I have to get moving on it.
New Challenge
Change your oil at the cheapest quick lube place you can find. Extra points if you use a coupon that brings it down to around $20.

Since you like to experiment with that engine, you might as well let it go out with a bang.![]()
It wasn't, and as seems to be your habit, you make assumptions that you state as facts.Especially since your opening premise was to save money.
Unlike your habit that you cling to the notion that a UOA shows comparative oil quality. It wasn't, and as seems to be your habit, you make assumptions that you state as facts.
We'll see...Unlike your habit that you cling to the notion that a UOA shows comparative oil quality.
So why not use one with the appropriate approval?
the BMW LL-01 approved CastrolThe SL Castrol is, but the PP is nowhere local.
Okay, let's play. M1 fs 0W-40. Euro oil, but lacks the proper bmw approval... It should be fun.Any more recommendations? Oil change next week so if it's something esoteric, ( not on WM shelves)I have to get moving on it.
