Hi-

I just bought a 2012 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab TRD-Off road 4x4 and am looking for a quality oil recommendation. I will be using this vehicle as my daily driver, as well as for monthly overland camping adventures from such diverse terrain as the High desert to the High Sierra’s. This vehicle will be fully loaded with all our camping gear and roof top tent.

The engine in the truck is the 1GR-FE V6

I would read the owner's manual first and follow Toyota's recommendation while under warranty. Your engine will out last you using the proper weight oil. Any major brand oil will work well.

Congrats on the new truck!
I have asked relatively the same questions in regards to the 2011 FJ.
Did you get the 2 year/25K free service with your purchase?
If so go ahead and let them do the service. Toyota SN 0W20 is very good oil and their proprietary blend as stated here on BITOG.
Are your OCI`s 5k or 10K?
I have also asked what is a good replacement oil to purchase and the BITOG crew have suggested some very good oils, PU, Mobil 1 Extended Performance, a few others.
If you have the 2 year free service than go with Toyota. If you are going to do OCI earlier on your own that what these guys suggest will do it for you!...
Good luck on the new Rig!...
