2010 Mustang V6

I have to comment. After driving the focus for over 500 miles, and driving the mustang tonight.... I finally see what everyone was telling me but I couldn't see. The 4.0L SOHC really is a rough, unrefined engine compared to the 2.0L DOHC. Transmission is better though. But if the 3.7L is anything like the 2.0L in terms of NVH, then it is lightyears ahead of the 4.0

I don't and never have liked the 4.0L SOHC for this reason. It just doesn't "feel" good, even though it is fairly torquey and pretty reliable.

The 3.5/3.7 is really a good bit smoother and freer revving than the 2.0/2.3/2.5. The Cyclones are awesome 6-bangers.

My buddy had an 07' w/ the 4.0, it was a pretty good car. Plenty of power, ran well. The one complaint he had was mediocre fuel economy.

I actually raced him once in my 97' Mark VIII; and to my surprise, beat him. Surprising because the Stang had a 0-60 rating of 6.9 seconds.

Good car overall, I LOVE the '10/11 model.

The 4.0 engine is indeed a bit 'rough around the edges'...mine tends to take to idling rough once in a while, but nowhere near as bad as my SHO did. The 4.0 just reminds me of the old V8s I grew up with, and from a service standpoint, it's just as easy to work on, so that helped sell me on it over the fancy new whiz-bang, hocus-pocus (unproven!) 2011 V6. It does get less-than-thrilling fuel economy, but it performs well and the 4.0 has a proven track record for reliability, so I feel confident that it'll last a good while! :)

I drove the new Mustang V6 convertible. I was shocked at the power it had. The difference between 2010 and 2011 is like day night! The horsepower jumped from ~200 to ~300.

The 3.7L has been around for some time in one form or another. The 3.0L in the Taurus/500, the 3.5L in the Edge, and others. It's been around a few years. The 3.7L is just a larger displacement and tuned version of those.

Just one correction, the 3.5 and 3.7 aren't related to the 3.0 at all; totally different engine families. The 3.7 is just a 3.5 with a slightly larger bore and the 3.7 has been in the MKS since 2009.

Even though it's Wikipedia, these two articles are accurate, by and large.

Ohhh...that name "Duratec" brings up scary memories of the 2.5 litre V6 in the old Contour and Mystique! Probably the single worst engine Ford ever put into a vehicle! The trick with the Contour/Mystique was to buy a four cylinder/manual transmission car and it would last almost forever. The V6 cars got a free ride to the junkyard just after the warranty expired!!!

I'm not familiar with any 2.5 V6 issues.

The 3.0L Duratec is related to the 2.5 and it turned out to be one of the most reliable V6s around. It worked pretty well for Noble too.

Well, at least the saga of this particular mistake in my life will be mercifully short...the car is three months old with just under 4,000 miles on it and as I type this, it's back at the dealership where I had it towed yesterday when the heater hose blew off and it overheated on the freeway. No more Fords ever...this one is going to be GONE by week's end! Was never safe to drive on the freeway to begin with, and now it's proven itself unreliable to the point where it can't be trusted to go ANYWHERE!

No use for a car like that!

Interesting. Sorry to hear it. Sounds like a fluke to me, as our 07 V6 has had exactly zero problems.

Now, think about how I felt about my cavalier. Alternator died, almost left me stranded. Head gasket, oil light.... It took a lot for me to give up and finally say "Enough". You have one problem, and "THIS THING IS SUCH A PIECE OF JUNK BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH NEVER AGAIN!!!!!1!!1one~!!". I don't buy it. It's under warranty. Get it fixed, keep driving. If you ALWAYS have something to fix, and something major is getting fixed on a regular basis... Then you can talk.

It could have been worse. You could have had a camshaft break in half, your engine block break, starter catch fire....etc. All kinds of fun recalls going on right now. This isn't one of them. So it obviously is a fluke problem and not something "common".

Taylor Ford...where I bought the thing. Got it back today and they TRASHED it...corn chip crumbs in the seat...and the seat was all jacked around...bunch of miles added to it, didn't even wash the antifreeze off the car from when the hose blew off. In addition to that, it runs like [censored] now (I'm sure the engine is cooked)and it runs hotter than it used to. I lived with it everyday and I know when it isn't right.

But...it was never safe to drive at freeway speeds, it had a ton of miles on it when I got it (300+), so it was surely abused as a demo or whatever...(removed obviously biased NON-FACTUAL comments towards the mfg of this product. ANY comments PM ME!)

*Cough* That is also quite interesting. I'm sure you know the guys at Flat Rock Assembly personally then, so you know them. I'm sure you also know the guys who work for Mazda who helped build and operate the plant. I'm also sure that the guys at that stealership are representative of ALL employees of FoMoCo.

Like I said, a couple of calls and I'll know one way or the other....See you tomorrow.

PS....Why did you go down to Taylor? Why not Village or Fairlane? You live within four miles of two of the best Ford dealerships in the nation and you buy at Taylor? Do you have a parts account with Taylor or something?

I bought a new 1993 F150 from Taylor Ford (when it was Whitfield Ford)from the same salesman. I never cared for Village Ford and their "circus act" approach to car sales...gimmicks galore with tents, giant inflatable animals on the roof, and rude salespeople with no inventory on hand. Lou at Taylor Ford is a straight shooter, but he doesn't build the cars...just has to try and sell them.

Glad you're taking such a personal interest...do report back with your findings.
