Im looking to upgrade to a bigger car from my hyundai accent.
Looking forward for a 2010 chevy malibu ls 4 cyl, with 36 000 km on it for $13 800 plus tax and fees.

want to go back to american car, hate the expensive import parts & servicing.

Is this a good choice? Fuel economy good?

I think they are great cars, the Ecotec is a really solid engine and I haven't heard of any issues with the rest of the car. I had a 2008 Saturn Aura which is essentially the same car and I was really happy with it. I only had the car a couple years but all I did was change the oil on it and go. Oil changes were a breeze - the cartridge filter is right on top and very easy to change with no mess!

2010 would have no timing belt, no DI.

Sorry for not addressing your question, but could you elaborate how the hyundai accent was expensive to service?

Thank you

300$ for 1 O2 sensor, for a cobalt 110$, thats one example, I just dont like the hyundai dealership here.

They are pretty good.

It doesn't accelerate as well as an Altima 2.5S, but it feels okay. At least as good as the 2.5 liter 5 cylinder Passat and only a little behind the same year Mazda6i 4cylinder automatic. I never really felt worried that it would not get up to freeway speed in time. I think the LS still had the 4 speed auto in 2010 so your results may vary.

Pretty comfortable interior. I'm not really fond of the ice-blue LED displays but that's what you get. It's better than the mustard yellow displays on the Altima.

Handling?

....meh. It's competent but it won't wow you. The Epsilon chassis is good, it was the basis for the Saab 9-3 but it's not tuned for handling.

All in all, I think it's an acceptable alternative to a Camry. I really don't know that it would be any less expensive to service than an Accent or really any of the midsizes. Identical parts for my Mazda were actually more expensive at the Ford dealer than they were at Mazda. (ie: coils and thermostat housing)

Rockauto.com shows the Bosch O2 sensor for $75 Cdn shipped to your home for the 2008 Accent.
$25 less than the Cobalt.

Heard of some issues with the shifting on the 2010 Malibu.
Do some searching and make sure the car you want to buy doesn't have the issue.

Wheel bearings are expensive and you may find yourself replacing those at 150,000 kms.

Wheel bearings are an issue with all makes/models and are not expensive and are easy to do yourself.

Not so sure front wheel hubs are easy to do on a FWD car. Check out the price on this car.

GM hub design unbolts as assembly from the upright. It makes for a more expensive hub part but there's nothing else that needs assembled or pressed out and you are replacing the whole assembly with new. I don;t think the late models fail any more than any other make.

The '10 Malibu is a reliable, solid and nice riding car and imo nice styling.

DANNO - Not sure that you really know what you're talking about. Not being rude, just saying that you are not making sense. The front hubs are easy to do...the only extra step is removing a hub nut...the bearing assy just comes right off as a unit with a few bolts.

AS for cost...ROCKAUTO has many to choose from: AC DELCO for $135, TIMKEN for $108 and a value line part for $74. Cheap enough and not more than any other hub I have changed.

Sounds like Danno has an agenda against GM
