2009 Camry Oil Consumption

Awesome glad to help 🍻. Such a good feeling when you find the problem. Now that you say that I remember when I purchased a PCV hose for the Corolla, some of the reviews for the cheaper ones mentioned that they collapsed.

Put maybe another 500 miles on it and still no oil loss. Right now trying to figure out a random rattle noise coming from the first catalytic converter. Might need to take it in and get it on a rack to figure out exactly what that is. I can tap on it and duplicate the sound. No codes or anything like that. Heat shields all tight as well.

Yeah, it sounds like it. I did see a video where a guy discovered it was the O2 sensor that was rattling which made the cat sound bad. I really don't want to have to replace it but that sound is driving me crazy. It's not as bad once the car is warmed up but still..

Jumping back into this old thread here. I had the exhaust system addressed. It wasn't the cat thankfully and with a new resonator in place it sounds great. I do have a question for anyone here as far as the oil consumption is concerned. So far the consumption is still at a minimal rate however there is a puff of blue smoke that comes out after the car's been sitting for awhile. I'm pretty sure this is valve stem seals but my question here is, would it be worth it to have this actually repaired with 184k miles or do I just deal with that plume of smoke on startup? Also, would a product like Rislone be worth it to soften the seals to help with this? If so, could that cause an issue since I've already cleaned the rings and am using VRP? Also worth noting it only smokes for a few seconds on the startup. No other smoke when driving.

I agree with this.

Rislone won't hurt but not sure it would do much for your start up puff either. I would definitely keep using the VRP though! Good to hear consumption is still low (y)
Yeah I know I'm a bit ocd with this car ha. If Rislone won't help with it then I'll just let it be. Just changed the oil last week. Consumption is right where it should be!

Ok guys, so I got some bad news and just wanted some advice on this. The 09 camry started smoking (white) and smelled sweet. I had my mechanic look at it and it is a blown head gasket. Misfire codes P0302 and P303. Question is, should I even try putting a sealant in there or bite the bullet on replacement of the gasket? Mechanic quoted me 2 to $2500 to fix.

Most of what I'm reading says no on the sealant too. I really dont have the extra 2500 laying around right now and not sure if this is a job I could do myself...

a blown head gasket and there were no symptoms before? extremely unlikely unless someone before you overheated the car a few times.

the 2002-2004 had head bolt thread issues that could be fixed during a rebuild and Toyota upgraded and fixed that issue in 2005, so 2005-2006 models didn't really have any issues and 2007-09 they tried some new pistons rings which failed and caused oil burning issues, for which they did a huge recall campaign and fixed A lot of short blocks for free.

Piston soaks didn't cause it or that I would know of (not a big fan of piston soaks as I would personally rebuild the motor myself)

I would personally try to get a second opinion from someone who specializes or rebuilds these 2AZ-FE engines, and if you have watched the video of Carcarenut that I linked, he would be the expect I would trust on this if I was going to pay someone else for this repair.
