2009 Camry Oil Consumption

Thanks for the info. Basically the mechanic I took it too said that they wouldn't try a sealant and it would be cheaper to replace the engine than to have this fixed. They think that the head is cracked and its more than the gasket based on how it starts and sounds (I mispoke earlier when I said head gasket)...It does shake and misfire bad when it starts but once warmed up it runs fine. It doesn't overheat, no oil in coolant or vice versa. Oil level is fine and looks basically the same as when I changed it last. Maybe a second opinion would be best in this case.

I also scoped down in there and there is fluid (maybe a spoonful) on top of cylinder 2 and 3 (which are causing the codes). This is after letting it sit overnight.

head is cracked? do they even work on Toyotas? I would run and never use them again.

Find a local Toyota specialist or go to a known Toyota mechanic if you want it diagnosed and then possibly fixed right.

Well... I am also in the same boat. Will be trying the Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W30. Wish me luck.

Ok guys. Its been awhile since I posted on this car. I went ahead and put a new felpro head gasket in and everything is running great. I have one question. I had one small 10mm bolt left over that I cannot figure out where it goes. I dont think its anything too critical or I would be noticing issues. Just wanted to put this out there and see if anyone has a clue. I thought maybe it was for the oil pan but that all checks out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

looks to be oil pan or timing cover with all the rust and grime, and you will have an oil leak if it is either, unless you tightened another bolt in there.

did you do the head gasket yourself? and if so did you confirm if the head was flat? did the head gasket have a very obvious spot where the coating came off and letting the coolant through?

That looks like its from the valve cover gasket. Should be located on the bottom driver’s side corner IIRC.

I double checked the oil pan. Nothing missing there and no leaks. Been driving ok. Just one of those things that’s gonna bug me I guess.
