Interesting is that smaller chamber where the pump pick up is?

Oil pan pickup can't be there. Remember it takes forever for oil to get to it through a check valve. You don't want to be pumping from a small place that oil can't get back into quickly.

We have just been hired by the Mother Ship! Actually I just figured out the right words to google, and it appears the dual chamber oil pan here simply allows the oil to warm up fast on a cold day, while getting the thermodynamic mass we want when fully hot.

Cool!! I keep tossing around the idea of picking up a new Edge Sport. They have the 2.7L EcoBoost. Although knowing me I will end up with an older Powerstroke.

I'd hope not as the engine would get starved of oil....

Wish the 3.5 had it in that location instead of spilling it all over the skid plate.

Different engine, different use, different oil...I don't see any relevance here. Besides, I think it's well established that oil color doesn't translate to if it needs changing or not.

Uh, changing the top-mounted SPIN-ON oil filter on my 2014 Outback 2.5 only requires a strong wrist and a paper towel...

Cheers!

p.s. MUCH easier than on the SVX...
