I did the first oil change on the 2.7. It was rather simple. Remove the under cover. I used an air ratchet .The drain plug is plastic that you turn 120 degrees, and then it pulls out The oil drained out quick and the drain plug is about an inch in diameter it could be less though. The filter is a cannister type which is easy to access it is on the top of the engine. The engine takes 6 quarts and it does take a while to show on the dip stick full mark. The trans is easy to check but a dip stick tube would be nicer but oh well. I changed the rear end oil and as expected it was ugly and only had about a quart in it the capacity is 5.5 pints . Both the engine oil and the gear oil was almost black as expected black with silvery swirls in it.

I had some Pennzoil Platinum in the shop . Quaker state is a SOPUS product as is Pennzoil though. Probably over kill . I may do a UOA next oil change to see how bad the fuel dilution will be. But then may be not.

I'm guessing this is your truck?

I don't want to take this thread off topic, but any chance of you doing a review on the engine? MPG, power, etc?

Also what gear oil did you use? Any plans to do the front early as well? I've been meaning to do all the drivetrain fluids on mine, I think it's time for me.

Just going to leave this note from the FSM here for future reference.

"After filling the engine with oil, the oil must flow from the main chamber of the oil pan, through a check valve into the smaller side chamber to correctly register the oil level on the oil level indicator. This may take up to 15 minutes."

Interesting, I've never heard of that. Why a side chamber? Is it some kind of gradual-feed reservoir, so the oil warms up quicker at first?

I'm assuming you have a database of UOAs to back that up and have taken any concerns with Quaker State's claim to continue to meet standards after an OCI with the appropriate authorities. Otherwise, this is a tad far fetched.
