Curious as to how many are following the OLM with these engines and what kind of mileage they are seeing for oci and what oil is being used.

I bought it used and changed the oil with about 5000km on whatever was put in at the dealer. Right now it's at just over 8000km and still showing 40%. Since it is winter, a mild one but still winter, I thought it would drop a little faster. My wife's G6 with the 3.5L usually gets just over 5000 maybe 6000km in the colder months, around 9000km in the summer.

I'm following it on the Cobalt, sort of. Since it's my toy, I basically drive it on weekends, and it's usually highway driving. The OLM may drop 1% when I come back from a run. I did notice on some of the colder days last winter, it would drop a little more. Based on my driving pattern, the system estimates about 10,000 mile OCI's. I did my first change based on time rather than miles since the manual says not to go past a year no matter what the OLM says.

Keep in mind, though, that my engine requires synthetic, so that may also play into the monitor's calculations. But I'm confident that it's accurate otherwise and wouldn't hesitate to follow it.

I have a Cobalt with the 2.2L engine. I used to change the oil every 3-4K miles, but after reading on here, it seems that the OLM is very accurate. So lately I've been following the OLM, which usually gets me a ~9K mile OCI. I've also been using synthetic oil for some extra peace of mind.

I wish mine required synthetic, that would mean a blower or a turbo!! I haven't found anything that says the 2.4 requires syn, just just GM6094. I follow it with out question in the G6, guess the extra mileage is testing my resolve....lol....a bit of the old 5K km brainwashing creeping up!!

Nate do you see a drop in the colder months? I guess I'm looking at about the same, I should get 14K km.

It's hard to tell. I first started using the OLM when I changed the oil around February of '09. That stayed in until August (about 9000 mi), and the OLM is on 8% now (about 8200 mi so far). My commute over the summer was about 6 miles with no highway, whereas now it's 12 miles, 80% of which is highway. So it's not directly comparable.

Any plans to do a UOA? I think I'm going to try and get both cars done this spring. The G5 does seem to be dropping a bit quicker now, it's at about 9000km.

I have used the OLM in my wife's Cobalt since we got it new in '06. It will normally run about 8000 miles before the change oil light comes on. I never sent a sample off as the oil comes out nice and clean looking.

I have an 06 Balt 2.2 with a current fill of PP. I usually run it close to the OLM anyways....this time I want to run it to 0%.

Don't think that will happen though, as the oil will get dumped based on the time limit.....

my g5 2.2 is at 85% with 1500 miles on current oil which is qs torque...i usually change at 6500 only cuz i like buying oil i dont need
