17.5w35 Quaker State racing oil

I went to the www.Qpower.com website and noticed a few odd weights in the Q Racing section. 0w5, 17.5w35, 15w50. Have no idea where one might buy the race oils, wouldent use them anyways myself. Anyone in the know of any of the new Quaker state Q oils? Just bought some Q advanced 5w30 fully synthetic, groupIII?, for my next oil change. I'am taking a guess that the pennzoil platnium is the same as the Quaker state Q advanced also.

If I saw someone mention 17.w-35 oil they mixed here, I would laugh. AFAIK, these type of bogus designations and would not be allowed to refer to an API oil as they are not supported by reference data.

BTW, does QS have any international sales/advertising/sponsorship at all?

The 17.5w35 is listed by quaker state on the site I provided a link to. Being a race oil, they might not be an API rated oil? I think they sponsor jeff gorden and hendrick motorsports. But who knows, you hear about teams sponsored by oil companys, and they use another brand sometimes. I did see a tv commercial for the new Q oil. I bet someone else on the board has seen it also.

Didn't feel like starting a new thread, due to this being the ONLY thread on BITOG that came up when I searched up "Quaker State 0w5". Has anyone ever used it? I'm trying to locate a guy nearby who apparently is selling a pallet of 0w5 super cheap. Saw his "for sale" post once, and can't find it since... Would you use the 0w5 in a hybrid, that has a recommended viscosity of 0w16?

I would bet that is not Quaker State. Why run a oil that is not recommended by the manufacturer?

Here's a blurb showing the bottles and weights from all the way back in 2005 in a press release kind of advertisement.

That said, I run ublock origin on my browser and the QPower domain was blocked by uBlock, so that's not particularly a good sign.

I guess the best bet would be to call Quaker State themselves. It could very well be real, or be City Star, and nobody knows unless they call.

"The 17.5W-35 has been developed for a sport-compact drag racer by the name of Kenny Tran. He runs a 175-mph Honda Civic with a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that puts 1,000 horsepower to the ground (via high rpm). We actually developed the oil first and then measured the viscosity. Nowadays, oil is not just a commodity. We have some teams that work with us, and we take (the R&D) to the next step. This new sport-compact oil is between a 10W-30 and a 20W-40. We also have a few other viscosity grades we are in the process of commercializing."

If you look closely on the bottles, they do in fact say "Quaker State" in small letters in the bottom left corner next to where it says motor oil.

I'm leaning more towards it being legit, as I don't think City Star would make newspaper press releases, but I think it's possibly still worth a phone call to make sure.

HKS sells 7.5w-55 45, and 35, and 0w25 which is about as wonky as 17.5w35. Other companies make 0w3, etc.

Also, as for Shell, the PZLQS site has Shell branding all over it on the main page. So I don't know how much they cared or not, but they did indeed continue to sell them.

I'm aware of the ridiculous grades peddled by HKS, they've been discussed on here before. They are not an oil company.

As I noted in the post you replied to, given the age of this thread, I suspect that SOPUS eliminated this nonsense. The big boys don't typically make up oil grades, because there is absolutely no reason to, it's done to create a false sense of "uniqueness"; that you are "special" because you bought some non-normal product. It's preying on ego; working to exploit that desire to stand out and be different.

Mobil makes exactly two racing-specific oils:
- 0w-30
- 0w-50

That's it. They also recommend the FS 0w-40, 15w-50 and 5w-30 for racing applications, where appropriate.

M1 0w-40 has been the oil of choice for a countless number of 24hr cars at both Daytona and LeMans. Mobil's 0w-40 R&D budget is likely more than the net worth of HKS.

I'm not trying to be rude, so I apologize if it came across that way. These ridiculous trips outside of J300, which accomplish nothing, are just a bit of a pet peeve of mine.

Its for the blender to identify, classify, or define their 'make believe grades'. Thats it. Some don't care for SAE and their slow to change anything grading system.
