I've been lurking for some time and I must say. I've learned a lot of things I did not know before. Now I have questions. I re-read my manual and I see it calls for 10w40. I'v been using 5w-10W30 oil, dealer has been putting it in. (I checked the service ivoice.)
Has using 5W30-10W40 caused premature wear? Will adding Lucas Heavy Duty Oil stabilizer help prevent wear on startup?
The vehicle is an 04 Land Rover Discovery but has a version of a Buick 215 engine. See link! http://www.aluminumv8.com/tech/tech.htm
I read a post on here that said these older engine designs like a heavier oil. Will that quite my tap on startup?
The Motor is a high carbon, sludge prone engine. I've been using Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubrican to help with the carbon after talkling with Lucas Oil rep. He also suggested the Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer. The Disco has 62k. The vehicle has also had 1 application of Auto-rx, but the tap is still there.
The Manual suggest 7,500 OCI but after the tap started and remained constant during normal operation I was told to change every 3k miles. The engine now just taps on starup but I'm afraid of all the wear that is taking place. Is there an oil that can lst for 7,500miles that will not sludge and not void the warranty?
