I may be about to get kicked out of the BITOG church here. I know this is high blasphemy on this site, but I must admit that I've run LUCAS Oil Stabilizer in a couple of my older engines.

There, I've said it. It's out in the open.

My 1998 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 3.4L V6 was an oil burner! That engine has a good reputation, but I got the only lemon 3.4 Toyota ever made I think. It pinged and knocked for a couple minutes upon startup, and it used a good amount of oil. It never leaked a drop of oil, but it burned oil consistently. So to cut down on oil consumption I used Lucas with the oil changes. It might have helped some . . . I really couldn't tell for sure.

I've also used Lucas in my old 1996 GMC Sonoma 4.3 V6 because it has oil leaks. Again I'm not sure whether the Lucas helps with the leaks or not. It's still leaking!

The verdict is this: Lucas never seemed to hurt or harm either engine, but if it helped any it was marginal . . . especially considering the high cost of a bottle of Lucas.

Ok, if we are confessing, I have also used it in oil burners, and I also couldn't say it did any good, or any harm. Personally I think I would rather use (and occasionally do) old fashioned STP blue bottle. At least as well as making the oil thick, it has a fair amount of ZDDP in it. Of course now that I know better, I will just use heavier wt. high zddp oil, instead of doping it up in my antique oil burners.

If you want thicker oil, use thicker oil. Lucas only serves to dilute the additives.

I used Lucas trans fix in my daughter's Taurus. It made it driveable, but not fixed.

no worry my brother-in-sin, i used oil thickener in winter, After i pour 5-W40 in, in an engine specked for 5W30.

also used mmo and acetone in the gas.

and atf modifiers into a Hyundai SP-III (heresy)

and i mixed 5w20 with 5w30

and synthetic with conventional

and i changed my oil trough the tube/ Mercedes style

and i wasted i brake pad set in 3,000 miles (not lubed the pins/cleaned the rust)=pedal to the metal

i added mmo to 5w30 PP Synthetic. did i ended up with 5W15 and a nice smell dipstick?

I think you just helped fatten the wallets of Lucas. Never really had an engine go on a car due to the oil. Things like a blown head gasket, bad carbs, bad transmission is what killed previous cars. There's no point to an engine that lasts 300-400k if the rest of the car falls apart at the 200-250k mark or less.

Lol I've got (HD)15w40 (HD)5w40 (C)10w30 (C)5w30 (S)5qw20 (S)5w30 (S)10w30, you guys are overreacting about the mixing hehe. However I have too shamefully used LOS, 1 to 4, now is that a 60 or 70 wt? oops

you're right, there was some rotella 10w40 diesel involved too

Unless the rest of the truck was a POS it may have been worth the price to tear down the engine and repair it. They are pretty robust motors.

I just drive Toyotas and follow the factory recommended OCI with synthetic oil....then at 200,000 miles I trade them in.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat.........

The truck looked this good and clean when I sold it at 200,000 miles. I have no mechanical ability or tools, so something like an engine rebuild would cost me $3,000 in parts and labor (or more!). I got the truck with about 165,000 on it, and the 3.4 V6 engine had good power but worrisome noise and oil burning from the first day I got it. It was going to need a clutch and some front suspension work, so I sold it at a reduced price.

I'll fess up to having used their PS "stabilizer" in a beyond-dead power steering system. I might as well have used 90-weight gear oil, but I knew both the pump and gearbox were going to be replaced soon anyway. Made less of a mess on the floor than regular PS fluid (or at least leaked out a little more slowly). Didn't really help with the leak, just the rate of loss.

I changed the oil in my Camry last week, and tossed out the Fram Ultra that only had 5,000 miles on it

I used Lucas in a manual transmission that blew a seal and got noisy. Sounded fine 100 miles later. Traded it to a family member who was in the car resale business, with full disclosure. He sold it to one of his employees, who was happy for as long as I know. That was 10+ years ago. Who knows how long it lasted...

Used lucas stabilizer in a car with piston slap and some oil burning. Both were reduced. Didn't take much. Now I would have run a HDEO, most likely with same results.
