Car is a 2007 Sonata V6...using dino now, but would like to extend the OCI to 10k. Driving is about 60/40 hwy/cty. Think this will be a problem?

Watch your Warrenty.

I don't think the MFG recommends 10k OCis.

With a 100k power train warrenty, I know what I would NOT be doing...

But with that said. I would not change the filter @5k and if I was going to do long OCIs, Amsoil would be my choice.

Take care, bill

From the Amsoil site:
2007 HYUNDAI SONATA 3.3L 6-cyl Engine Code F
Engine Oil
Grade 1......API*
Series 2000 Synthetic 0W-30 Motor Oil
SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil
SAE 5W-30 XL Synthetic Motor Oil
Above 0°F......10W-30
All Temps......5W-20, 5W-30[1]
1. SAE 5W-20 is preferred.
Also on the tech sheet:
AMSOIL ASM replaces SAE 5W-20 and is
recommended for extended drain intervals according to
AMSOIL service interval guidelines.

So no problem. You could easily extend to 15,000 miles and change filter every 7500 miles for even severe service up to 1 year.

My 7500 mile filter change recommendation is based on Amsoil says you don't have to change the oil or filter when running their XL oil product line for 7500 severe miles or 6 months, whichever occurs first, or longer if stated by the owners manual or OLM.

What does your owners manual say for oil filter change interval?

Definitely not 35,000 miles, unless you get an oil analysis done at 25,000 non-severe service miles or 1 year, whichever occurs first, and is OK'd by oil lab and/or Amsoil to continue further.

Oil/Filter change is 7.5k/3.5k...shorter being severe service. So, maybe for 10k I will do a 5 k filter change. Can't hurt, and the filters are cheap.

Modern engines just don't load up oil filters. Honda's go 2x OCIs on thimble filters. Read up on some of Gary Allen's postings/tests in the filter forum. Most "regular" filters could go 15k w/o problems in normal service.

I'd leave it on for the whole OCI and not worry at all.

I have to ask, if you are going to run a good oil like Amsoil then why would you use a cheap filter.

Rather than a filter change at 5,000 miles why not an oil analysis so you know the condition of your oil. Btw, I am of the opinion the filter will last the full 10,000 miles.

No EaO oil or EaA air filters available. Maybe someday.

No new car warranty issues ever with Amsoil. Never has been in 35 years.

I'd trust Hyundai over a Amsoil salesman.

Or Amsoil.

Why the @#$% do people buy new cars anyway if they are going to make it difficult to use a warrenty???

Like the challange?

To the orginal poster, call Hyundai and ask them what they think about running 10k ocis.

Let them know you'll be using Amsoil.

I know what Subaru, GM, Toyota and Ford HAVE said.

Take care, Bill

Yup, especially when all you get is the same line, from the same guy with the constant cut n' paste from the Amsoil site.

`sigh`

I'd trust US warranty laws and 35 years of no warranty issues with Amsoil over what Hyundai, Subaru, GM, Toyota and Ford says. So what have Subaru, GM, Toyota and Ford said, Bill? See if they'll put it in writing and sign their name to it, and send it to me. I'll take care of it from there.

I plan to run the 0W-20 for a year in my new hondas (about 10-15K miles).

Not worried about it at all - the engines will outlast the bodies anyway up north.
