Hi gurus
Apologies if it’s a repeat - tried searching.
2006 Porsche Cayman S. Rebuilt as 3.8 with Nickasil cylinders.
The owners manual calls for:
0W-40, 5W-40, or 5W-50 (flawed “Lokasil” bores stock)
About 8 litres a change. Then uses a little over the life of the oil - flat 6….
The engine builder, and most Porsche specialists, recommend Driven D40 (uncertified with a lot of Zinc and Moly I think) Porsche recommends Mobile 1 (I believe there are several “versions” of M1. Some not so great from a performance standpoint)
In Australia the D40 would cost around A$500 an oil change. Motul slightly cheaper but still $$$.
The “Fully Synthetic” Penrite HPR5 is A40 (Porsche) “approved” and is often available in Oz for about $80/change
Penrite “Premium 0”, also A40, at around A$150/change.
On the Penrite sight the HPR5 is “recommended”, and the “Premium 0”is an “alternative” for this vehicle.
I use the car for fun drives in the hills. Hoping for a track day or two. Plan on 5000km oil changes (after 6800km the HPR5 looked pretty black - if that means anything. I’m used to draining Motul 300V out of my race bikes still looking new)
1. Any comments/warnings about using HPR5 in this expensive engine?
2. “Premium 0” likely to be any better for the engine?
3. Any other recommendations?
Thank you.
