$101,000 USD 2022 F350- help me understand the seat quality.

Mostly business leases. My boss gets a new one every three to four years. He’s been waiting for his new F350 for like a year now so he bought a 100k Duramax Denali just before Christmas to tie him over until the new Ford comes. He knows he can sell the GMC for what he paid or more.
Can I ask what / how does he use a heavy duty / commercial grade pick up truck with almost limousine like interior? Does his truck go off road or carry pipes , industrial machinery etc.... in the bed? Just currious. The OP was really talking about the cost vs quality of the truck in question. I am interested in how most people use the majority of these anomalies. What I mean is trucks that do not seem to have a wide use or lots of people looking for or can afford these level vehicles. This article about the seldom seen Ford Lincoln Mercury Luxury Trucks is what got me wondering how and why they are building more, especially at those prices https://findtruecar.com/lincoln-pickup-truck/

My neighbor owns a concrete company and always has a top trim 3/4 or 1 ton truck. He has many new-ish cement mixers for work and I’m assuming just likes a truck with a nice interior to drive to the office. It helps he can write it off as a company truck. For him $20-30k more for a nicer trim level is minimal when looking at the overall big picture of the business and its expenses.

How else are you supposed to impress your coworkers and the neighbors you never speak to? Or tow that bumper pull Coleman camper that has only been out of the driveway twice in three years?

Could just be the angle the photo was taken from, but look at how poorly aligned the driver side front and rear doors are at the top. Also compare the panel gaps at the tops of the doors on the white truck behind it. In the interior pic facing the steering wheel... is the bottom of the hinge area the correct gray and the top a dark blue/purpley color, or am I seeing things?
Hey, sounds like you live in my neighborhood. Got a tent trailer? Need a new Superduty Diesel to tow it to the local campground. Meanwhile someone else is way overweight with a toyhauler behind an F150. Because"it's twin turbo."

Contractors and good with money often don't go together

He needs the capability of a one ton maybe… once every couple months. He carries heavy pallets in the back (2-3k lbs) somewhat often, and also tows a fifth wheel (gooseneck) a couple times a year. He really could probably get away with a 1/2 ton but I think he just simply likes the bigger trucks.

I get it. When you mention those people, there has to be enough like him and some with other uses that add up to entice manufacturers to make such a thing availabe if people will sign the dotted lines.

Makes sense. Better than having to hire "hot shot" services.

My 18 is an XL. It came with a rubber steering wheel. I decided to install a leather wheel on it. I did my research, ford has 4 different wheels for that year.
1. Rubber
2. Pleather
3. Raptor leather with red stripe
4. Genuine leather with thicker pad and heat

I finally ordered #4. It wasn’t cheap. i ordered it from a dealer and it was around $450.

1. It was bent or malformed over an inch, which I corrected with brute force
2. The metal frame was not cast centered into the rubber mould. It was so bad that I had to GRIND OFF over 1/8” of material to keep it from running then column.

it was probably the poorest example of a $450 piece of quality construction I’ve ever seen.

with all of the corrections, I do enjoy it. It is indeed comfortable in the hand.

Meep,

Were you able to get the heat option to work on the replacement steering wheel?

A neighbor at work has multiple F-350s including the boss's Platinum trim. It was in the $70k range when bought new. They produce (decorative) precast concrete pieces, installation of them, plus other concrete work so he uses it to pick up material, transport finished products, scaffolding, Bobcats, etc, etc. He wants a nice, comfortable vehicle for driving to job sites that can be hundreds of miles away.

No, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to. The heat has another connector in the wheel, and there’s no match for it in the XL’s stock harness. Everything else plugged right in… radio controls and cruise buttons.

i will add though, my boss has that 2022 f350. While it definitely drives and wanders down the road as a 1 ton with solid axles would, the noise and harshness of the diesel is tamed down to grocery-getter simplicity. They subdued it amazingly well. But my 1/2 ton is so much more pleasant to drive with. As cool as the 350 is, the luxury seems totally out of place in it. It keeps you busy at 50 mph.

Don't get me wrong, they are nice trucks. Powerful, smooth, nice interiors. You can barely even hear the 6.7L diesel, and they have gobs of torque, but it is in no way a luxury vehicle. You'll know after the first rough road you drive it on. More like a tool or piece of equipment to get a job done, not a comfort cruiser.
