New Extended Drain Interval Mobil Oils

The only thing I've seen in M1R via VOA is a different additive package The "typical properties" listed on it's PDS Racing 0w-30 would suggest it has exactly the same base oil composition as the standard 0w-30. Please enlighten me!

pure 1 vs wix or napa gold

I would think for liability reasons. Do your own cross ref. Baldwin has a size dimensions section listed by thread size. Here Then just cross ref to your brand of choice. :The WIX site gives gasket dimensions, so I would cross ref there first.

pure 1 vs wix or napa gold

Paul, speaking of flow have you seen the WIX Racing filter specs? Here :The only one with the correct threads is FL1A sized though, and I'm not sure where the bypass is located. But, the flow rate appears to be high to say the least!(not sure if the testing method for GPM is standardized) I...

pure 1 vs wix or napa gold

Your right, the WIX #51372 for Ford modulars has the bypass in the rear. Motorcraft is the only filter I've found with an "up front" bypass valve for that application.

Synthetic vs. Paper, Some Interesting Info

You could always call WIX Technical Service: 1-800-949-6698 - with the production date off your filter. 301/ B/ 3/ F Day/ Year/ Shift/ Line This code says this filter was produced on the 301st day (Oct.28th) of 2001 on the 3rd shift on line F. The designator for the year produced will go to...

Synthetic vs. Paper, Some Interesting Info

What, no core, how is that possible? Well, according to the brochure there is a "Media Substrate Support Layer"(ie core). It appears to be constructed out of cellulose or a like material. I would think this is made possible because of the "In-To-Out Flow Path" which does necessitate the use of...

Synthetic vs. Paper, Some Interesting Info

It doesen't. It reduces lateral pleat flex, not fore and aft.

Synthetic vs. Paper, Some Interesting Info

I'm pretty sure the C-Series Caterpillar engine use a typical flow oiling system/filter. I think it's more of a pleat flexing situation.

Synthetic vs. Paper, Some Interesting Info

I was thinking the string would help reduce lateral pleat movement, especially on the longer filters, but was merely a guess on my part. [ December 14, 2004, 02:21 AM: Message edited by: 69 Riv GS ]

Synthetic vs. Paper, Some Interesting Info

My thoughts exactly on the importance of a threaded end/up front bypass valve, it's too bad more manufactures don't utilize it, especially Purolator(across the board) Oversized is right, that FL299 is a da** big filter, - I'm jealous. I vaguely remember a comment in the "Grease Study" in...

Pictures of what's in New Oil

How about one of these as a pre-filter, I was thinking maybe the 5um(# 413) or the 11um(# 1) model. (halfway serious though). Here

Synthetic vs. Paper, Some Interesting Info

I ran across this: I don't know about a big difference in engine life, but I do think the desorption of contaminates due to media flex seems logically probable. I wonder if that's the reason PureOne uses a string around their center? I guess if going with paper, the thicker/denser the...

Citgo and Mystic brand motor oil - Anyone have info or experience with either oil

Motorbike, I noticed the 10w-30 HM now carries the API dounut/SL . It never did before, did it?

5w20 experiment coming to a close soon

G-Man, I assume you're staying with Pennzoil? If so, I feel that it's a more fair comparison to use the 5w-40 synthetic. It should have a more comparable base oil blend to your "reference oils", and an SAE 5w cP viscosity; - same as two of your three "test" oils. Sure the 5w-40 can be a little...

    Pet peeves

Andrews, I hear where your coming from. I DO see some selfish drivers abuse "flash to pass". When I'm in the fast/passing lane and approch a slower moving driver, I ascertain the situation; - are there any cars in front of them? Are they actively passing other vehicles? If so I will not "flash...

    Pet peeves

Yeah, and it's even worse when their subwoofer volume is maxed out too. 2.) When drivers are in the left lane, then hit their brakes and slow WAY down before getting over into the left-hand turn lane. 3.) People that don't recognize "flash to pass". 4.) Harley open pipes. 5.) "No Turn on Red"...

What's Wrong With Shaving Against The Grain?

I'm an end of the shower, gel user. I'm lucky I guess, even though I'm in my 30's I don't have much facial hair and only need to shave every third day. But when I do, I go sideways then up; - my cleft chin is a slightly challenging though.

    GF4 5W-30 vs. 10W-30 dino

If the GF-4 10w-30 was using a "lesser quaility basestock" blend(Grp I content), a stronger/different additive package along with correction fluid/s would have to be used to meet the the oxidation and volatility specs. Formulation costs would be roughly the same using a Grp II+ base oil blend...

    GF4 5W-30 vs. 10W-30 dino

I believe there's much truth in this statement! It's the quality of the entire formulation that makes the difference, and I feel this includes more than can be seen with a typical VOA; - or knowing which base oil blend is used).
