Another electric car almost out of power.

I took a day trip from the Bay Area to Lake Tahoe and back in the Prologue when I had it. It was never particularly efficient, I averaged like 2.5mi/kwh. Uphill in chilly weather was pretty bad, at some point the estimated miles remaining was counting down super fast. I was probably getting...

Would you buy a new Mitsubishi?

    Absolutely NOT

    Blazer EV SS - Nice!

I don’t get that, my Prologue had no issues working at low state of charge haha. Several times I got home with under 10 miles of estimated range remaining. And we haven’t had any issues with the Equinox EV. I do think the AC system and heater were underpowered on the Prologue. But I never got...

    AAA-Discounts?

Their insurance is not cheap, but the customer service is good. I went from AAA before to Tesla insurance because Tesla insurance is way cheaper but they have horrible customer service. I had a question about my policy and I tried to call them and the estimated hold time was three hours. I gave...

$300/mo Tesla 3 Lease has me thinking about taking the plunge

Love mine! Favorite car I’ve ever owned! Use a referral link to get 3 months of free FSD ;) The problem I have now is I can’t imagine not having a Tesla and it’s basically ruined my interest in any other brand of car lol.

2025 Toyota 2.5L Engine Oil Viscosity Update.

    O'Reilly has O'Reilly 0W-16 5qts for $28. Walmart has Supertech 0W-16 5qts for $19. Why would you pay $15/qt for 0W-16 from the dealer?

Top electric vehicle registrations in Europe by company, April 2025

I disagree. I think FSD is wonderful! I have 755 miles on my car and while I don’t know where to see the stats on it, probably 90% of those miles are with FSD. Once the three month free trial is up I will probably cough up the $100/mo to keep it.

    Backing into parking spaces

This comes up here every few months it seems like. On 90 degree spaces backing in is better. I’ve done it for a decade now. Where I work it’s actually company policy for insurance reasons, although i don’t drive for the company very often anymore I just got used to doing it and so I do it in my...

    Hybrid versus standard full synthetic

So, I use FSD a lot in my Tesla. Yesterday I drove all around the Bay Area for like four hours. Except for in parking lots where it goes slow I had FSD on the whole time. It worked great. How is this relevant? Hang in there… If you have FSD on, and you take your attention off the road for...

Yeah, I think "not trusting electronics" is an impossible approach to car ownership now. That collection of physical buttons he's so obsessed with communicates to some module over the Canbus or something that then changes the blend door actuators electronically.

    Carmaker Nissan on borrowed time?

The only Nissan I've owned was a Leaf I had for two weeks. Got it for almost free as it had degraded to about 20 miles of range. Got it as a curiosity more than anything. Nissan was an early mover in the EV space but they failed epically. No liquid cooling for the battery meant hot weather or...

What are you working on today?

If you have time for it, when you go in to return the O'Reilly part, ask for the store manager, explain the situation, show them the reviews on the website, and ask them to submit a product alert describing the issue. Who knows if anything will change, but it's worth a shot.

    Cheap cars are back, but...

I think the problem with cheap cars is repairs are so expensive now that if you can’t hunt for good deals on parts and DIY most things on it, you’re quickly going to spend thousands any time it needs something. Where I live even independent shops charge $200/hr labor. Dealers are even more...

Help me decide if it is worth it to save this rare CNG Civic

Yeah, but my thought is, you'll be spending $5K to fix it, and then you still might end up with a vehicle with poor compression or oil consumption due to the unknown damage to the bottom end of the engine. Let's say it costs another $5K to have a used engine put in (assuming you can find one)...

Based on the fact the engine may be junk, I'd give up on the car. I'm sorry :(

High maintenance costs and lack of fuel strands hydrogen busses

I looked at a random local route for a bus in Napa, CA and calculated if we use the same bus to go back and forth all day (I'm not sure if that's how the route actually is, I'm just keeping it simple) it will travel about 200 miles. Apparently an electric transit bus averages about 0.5mi/kwh...
