Top electric vehicle registrations in Europe by company, April 2025

It's also a matter of convenience. Think of this scenario. Want to adjust your HVAC in your automobile? All you have to do is push a button instead of scroll through screens while driving. It's distracting and a theory as to why "Tesla has the highest FATAL accident rate" in the USA. I dont think coincidence they have the least amount of physical controls.
BTW- BMW back tracked over doing away with many buttons due to unfavorable feedback.

"Tesla vehicles suffer fatal accidents at a rate that's twice the industry average, according to a new report."

So, I use FSD a lot in my Tesla. Yesterday I drove all around the Bay Area for like four hours. Except for in parking lots where it goes slow I had FSD on the whole time. It worked great.

How is this relevant? Hang in there…

If you have FSD on, and you take your attention off the road for more than a few seconds, it knows. Texting on your phone? It gets mad. Playing with the screen of the car? It gets mad.

Ultimately, it’s very safe. FSD is safe, at least on HW4, and it forces you to stay attentive. Distraction is not permitted.

Yeah but it's not about FSD.
It's just about accident rates. (actually death rate)

AG, there is no reason to go through a bunch of screens to adjust AC in a Tesla. In fact, you don't even have to take your hands off the steering wheel if you don't want to.

The screen has temp up-and-down arrows on the bottom of the screen. Or you can use voice controls; "I'm hot" or "I'm cold." Most people just set the climate controls to Auto and touch the arrows.
I find my Lexi controls far more distracting due to the complicated dash.

Good info I was incorrect to single out one item. Time will tell if the death rate stays up there or if it's a "one off" we will see. They are speculating on the reason. Bottom line the company is tops in deaths so they are searching for a reason and "distraction" is all they have come up with. Maybe it's too powerful ? I read about all the thrills in here from owners, put that in the hands of family members and young people and ?

Skoda was always a reasonably solid built car even back in the east block times.
The interior of a Tesla is at best a penalty box, cripes it couldn't get much cheaper if they bolted a couple of lawn chairs with cushions in it. There is nothing minimalist about it, it is just downright cheap and people are catching on.
The seats in the Highland refresh are excellent. The interior gets rave reviews from my passengers.
Penalty box? Maybe if you prefer cluttered.

Each to their own, of course.

From your article:
"The study's authors make clear that the results do not indicate Tesla vehicles are inherently unsafe or have design flaws. In fact, Tesla vehicles are loaded with safety technology; the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named the 2024 Model Y as a Top Safety Pick+ award winner, for example. Many of the other cars that ranked highly on the list have also been given high ratings for safety by the likes of IIHS and the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, as well.

So, why are Teslas — and many other ostensibly safe cars on the list — involved in so many fatal crashes? “The models on this list likely reflect a combination of driver behavior and driving conditions, leading to increased crashes and fatalities,” iSeeCars executive analyst Karl Brauer said in the report. “A focused, alert driver, traveling at a legal or prudent speed, without being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, is the most likely to arrive safely regardless of the vehicle they’re driving.”

No disrespect, but what a mess!
Me and the rest of the world tend to disagree. Audi is always near the top for interiors.

Yes, the good old Iron Curtain days. Here is a Lada I saw in Greece.

This is not a Lada. It's a Fiat Polski.

Made in Poland. Bigger engine, rear leaf springs, four disk brakes.
Better than a Lada in many ways, but reliability was even worse.
It's a much closer port of the italian Fiat 124, and it was made everywhere - Turkish Tofaz 124, Egyptian Nasr, Indian Premier 118, a Spanish Seat version, etc.

The Lada actually had some Soviet work put into it compared to the original Fiat, it was not a 100% clone.

Exactly
It doesn’t change the fact that the highest death rate is in Tesla.
So understandably they search for reasons.
I never in any way said Tesla is unsafe. In fact it has some of the highest crash ratings in the industry..
At the same time, it has the highest death rate in the industry and most likely already does assume will be the highest insurance cost in the industry.

I never mentioned any fault of the car. I mentioned driver distractions, and an unnecessarily high-powered in the wrong hands such as when we were young, could be a recipe for death

Eliminating waste in government, and transparency in what government is throwing money at is asinine? Musk simply applied the same techniques which have created several of the most exciting and innovative companies of the century.

The natural progression of government has rendered NASA unable to launch men into space.
Government and business are not same thing. They should not be a same thing!

NASA, government agency is fine. It is private contractors that have favor with government that are a problem.

Let’s not forget aluminum brakes on Lada. That was a hit!

No one else can afford to fund the development of the biggest success's. Manhattan project, space travel, super computing. Many others. Back when scientists and engineers were given a budget and singular task and the idiots got out of the way. Long ago sadly.

The problem is lobbying. NASA on its own is extremely efficient agency, like most government agency. When people start to talk waste, I know immediately they never worked on any project with government.
I can’t take air force cadets to visit Pentagon without justifying each cent several times over.
The real problem is lobbying for these lucrative contracts and representatives pushing it.

The simple fact that you think that government and companies are the same thing is sign enough that you can't have that discussion.

A company is a dynamic system that constantly trims the fat and drops inefficiency. Inefficiency is also people who need to be dropped. It's goals are short term, and are one thing - money.

A government - strangely enough - also has money as its goals, but they are long term. I has no place to drop anything or anybody, as it's the final, lowest net. It has to catch everybody. It's goal is to keep everyone - in the long term - alive, functional and healthy.

Not for any idealistic reason, mind you. The government doesn't love you. It just wants you and your loved ones alive, functional and healthy because as long as you are alive, functional and healthy - you'll pay taxes. You'll take care of your family so someone else doesn't have to.

Because if you kick the bucket - your kids will have to be taken care of by someone else. They'll have less chances to graduate. They'll likely get crappier, lower paid jobs. They'll thus output less product, and pay less taxes. Bringing a long term compounded loss for the government.

A business doesn't have long term goals at that scale. And many fields are not prone to be ran like a business anyway. For example, a health insurance's long term goal is not to keep you healthy. It's to get your money while you're healthy, and to drop you to croak quick once you get sick. There is no optimization of that model. It's a sweet, sweet business model, but not for the insured. Only for the insurer.

That any government can benefit from optimization is a given, but barging in, destroying, ripping off, destroying lives, and treating people who signed up to serve YOU as the ennemy, humiliating them, painting them as the ennemy and cheering when they get yelled at and fired by 18 years olds is not optimization - it's showing off, plain and simple. It's simulating some action and throwing shiny sparkles in your hungry eyes, while the stealing is going at unseen scale behind your back.

Now I am driving an Audi S4 Quattro and parked up the Subaru for the summer so I can free some time up to work on the old Viggen.
Very nice real leather (not cheap vegan plastic crap) plenty of knobs and buttons and a 6 speed stick.

I disagree, what your describing is the affect. The problem is there is no clearly defined objective and deliverable. In 1944 those in the know at the Manhattan project knew what their objective was. Same at Nasa in 1962. Any idea what NASA objective is today. I looked it up. Its a meaningless corporate BS statement.

What is the objective to take air force cadets to Pentagon?

Nasa Mission: Lead an innovative and sustainable program of exploration with commercial and international partners to enable human expansion across the solar system and bring new knowledge and opportunities back to Earth. Support growth of the Nation’s economy in space and aeronautics, increase understanding of the universe and our place in it, work with industry to improve America’s aerospace technologies, and advance American leadership.
