Which of these three base oils has the lowest % of volativity?

Group III, 4.5 cSt@100C

Polyol Ester, 4.3 cSt@100C

PAO 5, 5.1 cSt@100C

This question is NOT open to Chemists, Formulators, or Engineering Disciplines.

And to substantiate my claim that it is the Ester:

- ExxonMobil Esterex NP343 Polyol Ester, Noack 4.6%
- ExxonMobil SpectraSyn 5 PAO, Noack 6.8%

VISOM 4 is 14.8% and VISOM 6 is 8%.

Mola, is this another trick question? The ester would have the least.NOACK and volatility.

According to ASTM D5800 %, here is the way they would stack up in terms of average percentage volativity:

Group III, 4.5 cSt@100C - 12.8%

Polyol Ester, 4.3 cSt@100C - 2.65%

PAO 5, 5.1 cSt@100C - 5.6%

So indeed, the polyol ester has the lowest volativity in spite of the fact it had the lowest 100C viscosity.

In addition, the POE had the lowest deposits in the TEOST MHT-4 tests for a 0W20 PCMO with 10% POE.

The addition of POE's to the base oil mix assists in deposit control because of their oxidative stability and detergency.

Overkill had the first correct answer, so he receives the virtual BITOG Mug with the embossed

emblem and a quart of XWXX full synthetic oil.

There are no trick questions. One is expected to do some research and come up with an answer.
