z-71 Chevy Silverado, midnight edition, V-6

My 64 yo father rocks a 2016 Chevy Silverado, midnight edition, with a 5.7L V-8. What is the best oil and filter for this vehicle? He likes good gas mileage....

There is no best. My son's 4.3 gets A.C. Delco 0W20.

Any major brand of oil that meets the requirements will run fine. Same with the filter.

You mean the 5.3. In my Z71 with the 5.3 gets the same oil.

5.3L ?

I run Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 ……… the filters are supposed to have a high PRV setting so I'm using AC Delco PF63

Expect anything from a baby boomer, especially an old man. 2/3 of my Dad's cars had no ABS for over a year until he replaced one of them last week. He didn't care because he didn't drive them but we are talking about going back in time 40 years!

If you're going to delete the AFM might as well do it right and swap in a carb'd SBC. We can pretend it is 1978 again.

Midnight is just an appearance package. It has the same 5.3 the other 1500s get. What the [censored] is everyone talking about? Chevy hasn't put 5.7 in a truck in almost 20 years.

. I agree with the other OP above that it probably a 5.3 V8. Stick to the OM recommendation if fuel ecomony is important. I really don't think your going to get better than that. Use a full synthetic 0w20 oil that meets the DEXOS 1 of your choice and a good oil filter that is capable of handling the distance between oil changes.

Don't think its everyone … maybe two people … L83 is Gen V of the 5.3L …

There are engineers who helped designed this engine who have stated there is no reason not to use 0W20 with everyday usage.
