When you go to a restaurant and get a seafood dinner, what do you get in detail and what's the price usually sans tip??? Leave out other costs like alcohol etc.

If you go with 4 people, figure 2-3 appetizers at $25/ea and a main entree in the $40-$70 range/per person.

Poor Richard’s Sunday special
Random 8oz cut of steak
Lobster Tail
Potatoe
AYCE Clam/Fish Chowder + salad bar
$20 per person

Trails End or Trailside bar Friday Fish Fry
$12-$20 depending on number and type of fish
Cod/Haddock 2pc beer batter low end
2pc Cajun grilled catfish high end $20
Shrimp popcorn low end, Cajun scampi $18ish
The place I go has delicious bacon potato salad and delicious German potato salad
Cole slaw
Rye
Sometimes one of us will buy a larger fish fry (4pc or Cajun catfish) then the other a very nice salad with a bowl of clam chowder then split to save a little cash.

Considering I like to mix things up I buy whatever I feel like week to week so price varies.

I used to frequent a hole in the wall seafood restaurant in South Florida, that would only seat 12 people, including the bar. Grilled mixed platter (mahi, scallops and shrimp) with coleslaw and chips; Grilled mahi with colelsaw and rice; about $50 bucks + tax and tip. They've since relocated to a bigger location, and prices have increased about 20%.

Define seafood dinner?

You can get a Mahi sandwich or fried shrimp from some pretty good places around here for $20 a plate at lunch. Pages Okra grill, either location, great.

"Dinner" like maybe Grouper with a shrimp appetizer - maybe $50 +/-

Swordfish, oysters (not my thing), lobster, soft shell, etc - market price so who knows. Can be a lot more - approaching $100 at the right place on the right night.

It's been 5 years ago but I went to a dive right off Flagler Beach in Palm Coast FL and they had all you can eat snow crabs for $35.....

The menu was torture....everywhere were warnings that if you shared the crab legs you would be tossed out on your head....😆

It was over the top.......

We had this on Valentine's Day and it was awesome.
Vancouver Fish Company. $67 each with appetizers and desert.

You remind me that what makes up seafood is quite varied. I don’t have a large enough appetite for it anymore but around here there is a $32 AYCE “sushi” place that also has extensive and exotic seafood sides, ramen and entrees.

You pay dearly if you have leftovers and my appetite and ability to stuff my face is quite limited after having covid.

But I do enjoy broiled eel with eel sauce and edible flowers, octopus and squid with sweet chili and grilled peppers, even cod livers and random poke bowls
but I usually am better off ordering Ala carte as I can’t scarf down enough.

Haven’t been in there in years.
Having a sizable Hmong population has benefits.

Also you mention oysters, when I was a kid everyone had oyster stew or chowder at least once a year during religious holidays for some reason and oddly most restaurants had oyster soup more often than clam chowder on Fridays, sort of miss the old supper club style fish fries with the basket of homemade crackers, homemade cheese dip, and milk and cream covered oysters as the soup was delicious.

Date night at V's Italiano Ristorante in Independence MO.
Calamari appetizer and two fried Haddock dinners with baked potato-$67
I think this is a special during Lent. Not sure this is on the regular menu.

The Fish Market in Liberty MO.
Shrimp and catfish basket (comes with fries and 2 hush puppies)
Regular $19
Jumbo $28 (You really should share it, it's a lot!)

Different in every local. Here the most traditional "seafood" is going to be a lowcountry boil aka Frogmore Stew.

In the keys Grouper or stone crab.

New England Lobster.

etc.

Around here, there is only one all you can eat crab legs buffet place in a casino... it's $60 per person. They do have other stuff like prime rib included as well. Normally we order take-out from Mr & Mrs Crab - 1 lb of snow crab legs is $38.

And different in the not so distant past in the same area.

Back when everyone didn’t eat anything exotic
oyster soups, stews and chowders were very common in this area
both at home, church and at restaurants.

It’s a rather simple soup but nobody makes it anymore.

When I was a kid while I might get oyster stew, clam chowder was a luxury item you rarely had or found.
Now it’s the opposite , haven’t thought about oysters in years.

We still have a few places with frog legs and turtle soup but that has gotten more rare as has rabbit.

If you're in Gulf Shores try Lartigue's. I can't quote prices but you wont be sorry.
Also recommend Florida's Seafood in Cocoa Beach.

I usually get some sort of fish whether it be tilapia, salmon, trout, catfish, perch, white fish or whatever. And usually it’s anywhere from $15-$30 depends if it’s fried or broiled or grilled if it’s salmon. Usually try to get fried shrimp with it too. Always water to drink no sodas at restaurants unless included with the meal. That’s for the local place but I prefer Long John Silvers because their batter is amazing.
