Hi all, I hope you are having a great weekend.

Is it ok to use RN710 C3 oil(Castrol Magnatec) instead of RN720(Castrol GTX) on a Kadjar 1.5 Diesel?

My mechanic put Castrol Magnatec stop start engine oil, and when I checked it is not RN720 which is the required one for the engine. Should I replace it? Will I damage the engine?

Thanks you.

Does your car have a DPF?

These RN are not too stringent, and C3 oil will have a HTHS of 3,5 at least so apart from a reduced TBN, I don't think it will matter much.

Here are the difference of the specs.

RN710 C3 oil doesn't exist... C3 oil has a TBN below 8, and RN710 above 8

that said there's a few things I don't like about that gtx c4 oil

As you can see on the attachments RN710 exists. Ignore the GTX, I just want to know if this oil is safe or should I dump it?

the specs should be C4 oil but mechanic put C3.

Another one of these cases, flirting with the limits to put as many specs as possible on the paper?
Well, the oil used has a higher SAPS content than the C4 recommended oil. Will that have a noticeable influence on the DPF's life? I don't know. (Sorry, not useful).

I vastly prefer an MB 229.51 oil over a 226.51, and that's also what these two are. But Renault prefers the 226.51 (same as RN720 but for use in renault engined mercedes).

RN710 exists, it just can't be C3 or C4 if the specs are followed to the letter.

You have a case to have the oil replaced but I wouldn't.
