Hello,

Anyone can suggest which one seems to be the best oil for 2.0 TDI BKP Engine?

REPSOL ELITE 50501 5W-40
REPSOL ELITE EVOLUTION C3 5W-40
CEPSA XTAR 505.01 5W-40
LIQUI MOLY TOPTEC 4100 5W-40
CASTROL EDGE TURBO DIESEL 5W-40
VOLKSWAGEN SPECIAL D 5W-40

If you have better suggestions, please post.

I was about to buy the original VOLKSWAGEN SPECIAL D 5W-40 which is a Shell product, however after looking some technical information I can tell that at 100ºC, this W-40 is almost a W-30, compared to Repsol, for example, which is more viscous at 100ºC.

I was using MOBIL 1 ESP 5W-30, however I was advised that this PD engine runs better with 5W-40, as mine also is non-DPF unit.

Please advise.

If no dpf then probably no need for a C3. Can you find any high temp high shear numbers for any of them? Any of the 5w-40's should serve your engine just fine though.

I would look for these specs.
Pumpe Düse can have some quirky requirements.

VW 505.01, ACEA C3 with Porsche A40

As examples:
Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel 5W-40
Motul 8100 X-clean 5W-40

Yes, no need for C3. A3/B4 is enough. But I guess none of I listed are.

A3/B4 is quite obsolete now? As I can find only C3.

Both of them seem to be less protective than Repsol one, I saw some tests from Piotr on YouTube and there are big differences between Repsol and Castrol, the first is better when talking about wear at 100°.

Do you recommend any other?

Looking at technical sheet, the Cepsa and Repsol seem to be the better ones, regarding the viscosity at 40°C and 100°C.

We have a popular A3/B4 Mobil FS 5w-40 & can get other A3/B4 oils so it's not a problem in the USA. You may want to call up those companies to see what options you have.

Doubt he is from U.S

A3/B4 obsolete? Latest update was is 2021 same as C3.

Viscosity when new is not super relevant, it will shear down some.

I wouldn't worry about using an oil with a lower KV100. HTHS is what matters.

In fact, an oil with a KV100 that's close to the lower allowable limit is, by definition, a shear-stable oil. This is because for most standards, an oil is required to stay in grade after a shear test. Oils with a high KV100 are allowed to shear a lot. Oils with a low KV100 are only allowed to shear a little.

The Liqui Moly and Repsol seems to be better than original manufactured by Shell.

Please give your suggestions, or suggest better oils!

I wouldn't necessarily choose it based just on that. I just wouldn't rule it out because it has a lower KV100.

The best standards to look for for ACEA C3 oils are MB 229.51 and 229.52. They're a lot more stringent than C3 or the VW standards, and this includes shear stability if you're concerned about viscosity. The Castrol meets MB 229.51.

Why would it run better wit 5W-40? I think it's not a smart advice.
Your above mentioned choice are prohably all weaker compared to
M1 ESP 5W-30 whether if DPF equipped or not. I'd keep running it.

Do you have any other suggestion besides Castrol?

LIQUI MOLY has MB-Approval 229.31.

Was some controversy about PD engines, if the VW 507.00 truly is as compatible or something.
Many of the Euro brands still make specific oil for the PD engine. Old diesel less efficient more heat? Just guessing.

229.31 is good, but not as good as the newer standards.

Personally, I'd stick with the Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30. It has the best approvals, MB 229.52 and Porsche C30. Its HTHS will be very close to your average 5W-40. It also passes a more stringent shear stability test than the 5W-40 oils you listed do (aside from the Castrol), so may even end up thicker than some of them after shearing.

Skoda - same poor wordings like VW's manuals.
Maybe just because from 2007/2018. VW adjusted VW 504 00 requirements
several times in recent years and most recently in 2022. Like mentioned VW
504 00 use to come along with MB 229.51 and 229.52.

DPF equipped 1.9 TDI engines don't came with uprated pistons, linings or
cams (1.9 TDI: one single cam). If DPF TDIs run fine with VW 504 00, the non-
DPF TDIs will run the same. Very most if not all VW 504 00 oils are the better
products.

If it matters to the OP, M1 ESP comes with Boron and Molydenum (very most
probably BN and MoDTC), while both Repsol and Volkswagen Special D don't.
Just because a bit more ZDDP will save your bacon? They both don't even
come with more ZDDP worth to speak from.

HTHS? 3.6 or 3.7 mPas doesn't matter. Millions of 1.9 TDI engines survived
hundreds of megameters running VW 506 01 (3.2 mPas? 'Longlife 2') with-
out major issues (one of the poorest VW approvals, not my recommendation).
