Would you continue using Mannol?

So I've used Mannol products on and off for a number of years with no issues. They're often priced very competitively, have some manufacturer approvals, come in nice containers and often advertise the use of PAO's and esters.

A few months ago on this forum @930.engineering debunked their use of PAO's and Esters in an oil clearly advertised as being PAO + Esters based. See HERE

And it got me looking in a bit more detail at Mannol, and I found these...

Claiming contradictory specifications.

Accused of dumping cheap lubricants in the UK to harm other domestic manufacturers.

Brake fluid that didn't meet the required standards for DOT 4.

CHF didn't meet the appropriate -40°c viscosity.

And now I'm starting to doubt if I'd trust using a product of theirs again? I understand it's a manufacturer that you don't have much or any access to in the US, but if they were an option how would you feel about them?

I'm currently needing to stock up my oil stash as I'm all out. I'm looking at 504/507 oils or 511 oils as I feel like they're both a good all-rounder.

To give you an idea on their pricing, these are all 5w30 oils with VW 504/507 approval in 5 litre quantities...

Mobil1 ESP 5w30 - £56.95
Castol Edge 5w30 LL - £47.99
Fuchs Titan GT1 Pro 5w30 - £41.95
Total Quarts Ineo 5w30 - £38.99
Mannol 7715 5w30 - £18.95

In fact, I can order a 20L drum of Mannol 7715 for the same price as 5 litres of Castrol Edge LL and it comes with the same 504/507 approval.

With that drastic of a price difference, I'd say that the quality of the product speaks for itself.
One gets what they pay for.

Price looks suspiciously low relative to name brand competitors.
Might be good for use in a clunker but I think in UK your MOT inspection gets most of those off the road?

How does the oil perform for you? have you tried other oils? If it's not noisier, more expensive, leaking or in any other real way inferior I don't think I would care. But don't get the brake fluid, even if it's "sometimes" out of spec.

But who is VLS, and who are they affiliated to?

No I dont trust Mannol products after what i found out about how they pretended to have Dexos licensed oils and later they changed it to equal to. Still have Mannol in the truck but next oilchange it will be something else and the jugs with Mannol i have left will going to lawnmover and used as chainoil in the chainsaw.

The mannol seems to be significantly cheaper compared to other oils on your list. I'm sure pao and ester basestocks are a fairly similar price across the board.

you shouldnt have thought of using it from the beginning..

mannol is a company that lies for many thing as you revealed.
they dont carry approvals,i think they carry one mb approval in just 1 oil.
they claim to be a german company but only bcs. their offices are in Germany. mannol is a Lithuanian company
they dont produce oil, they only pack the oil from a blenders factory from a n eastern europe factory.
they became so popular bcs. of their prices and bcs. in some uk forum members claim that they use for many pf their own cars and have nothing to complain about.
its your car ,your choice.in uk you have millers which is more respectable and many domestic companies to choose from, fairly more expensive, if price is the issue.you dont need mannol. further more you can choose the cheapest brand from bmw ll04 approved oils catalog like lukoil.
i really dont understand people who buy an expensive car but they dont want to spend money to put a good approved oil in their engines.i mean whats the difference between a cheapie and a more expensive? a fast food dinner perhaps?

Mannol does seem to carry a number of approvals. For instance, the Mannol 7715 I mentioned above, does have 504/507 approval. And when I always advise people that they should buy oils based on approvals, it's hard to look past this. However, I won't be buying any more on principal alone as they seem to have some shady business practises.

did buy the 0w-40 pao esters product...well it doesn't have pao and ester, 😂it also don't apply to SAE J300 standard according to ru oil club. but it was very cheap oil.

You can't go wrong with mobil. Total and motul are also very good.
I don't think much of the rest nor shell for thant matter,
Petronas and valvoline should be on your shopping list too

i know, the temptation of getting an ester -pao oil at that price is big! they claim they invented a new pao ingredient🤣 which is more powerful and costs less. try searching their website, it is phenomenal !
