WIX XP

Well … as a can cutter myself I was thinking my AC Delco filters were landing between an orange and gold can Fram. Always thought my Wix XP’s had a better (metal) PRV than Fram or ACD … but just not as good on micron cut.
Then on the bubble point tests I see an ACD leak at the seam and that “superior” metal PRV leaking.

I’m back to thinking the Fram Ultra is still the best bang for the buck … RP and Amsoil are just too $$
IMO, a nylon on metal bypass valve has a better seal than a metal on metal bypass valve.

I only run synthetic media. Use the XP or the Napa Platinum equivalent.

There is more to a filter than bench testing.... how it does in a real engine is a far cry from bench testing.

And, as seen with GM issues, even with a PD pump, certain filters can cause lower oil pressures and reduce flow in the engine. Someone refuses to admit to pump slip and overreacting pump dump bypasses caused by restrictive filters, especially when loaded. PD only works on paper and not in the real world.

This two links are worth reading and understanding, especially the 3 pictures in the 1st link and one interesting paragraph in the 2nd link.

*Reading #2 article above (i.e. Mann Synthetic Oil Filter Media) : After reading , why would anyone continue to use a non - synthetic media oil filter , even for average 5K ~ 7.5K mile OCI's there are very good benefits to be had with oil filters designed with synthetic filtering media .

-as stated above,,,"And, as seen with GM issues, even with a PD pump, certain filters can cause lower oil pressures and reduce flow in the engine. ChrisD46, Could you please explain PD pump, pump slip, etc. I don't remember seeing these terms anywhere else.
Thanks.
