This filter goes on my daughters 20 Kia Soul turbo 1.6, just did an oil change and can't believe how small this filter is, too small for my taste looking for a longer version if one is available, all my other vehicles are running longer versions of the original filters. ;)

I would tend to agree but the filter won't be why the car gets replaced .

I felt the same way when I started buying filters for my first 3800 series l (51040) when I was used to buying FL-A1's for my Bronco. I thought this can't be good but......

The Wix 51334 is a halfway point between a Fram's 9688 (OE size) and 3593a (slightly longer). Unfortunately, Fram has largely consolidated their 3593a line in brick-and-mortar stores like walmart, but you can still find them on Amazon and Rock Auto.

The next best alternative would be to move to the Fram 7317 line or the Wix 57356 equivalent, which is narrower, but longer and nets a slight increase in media surface area.

My 2018 Kia Sorento, 2.4L, uses the same filter. Don't forget about your warranty. They could look for any reason to void your warranty (wrong filter). Please don't let that happen. Irishman

They can only deny any warranty on something that an aftermarket part directly caused a problem. But yeah, some car makers try to void the whole warranty for anything on the vehicle because of something like that, which is technically illegal to do per the Magnuson Moss warranty act.

That’s smaller diameter
True but the gasket id and od still fits but they're common to get and readily available. At Walmart the xg7317 is cheap at $9 but the xg9688 is $11. The ph3593a can fit but the TG version is a better value but the xg version of it almost doesn't exist now.

Value and convenience wise the xg7317 in store at wallys is the best or the tg3593a ordered from amazon.

That motor won't no the difference in regards to a larger filter if you're worried about filtration and efficiency use the 51334xp with the synthetic media.

9688 vs 3593a, Fram makes a distinction in these two filters that other manufacturers do not. The 9688 being mostly for Hyun/Kia and there is a slightly different bypass spec. Most others like Wix just combine the two applications in one filter, in this case 51334.

As for looking for a larger 'non' OE spec filter for 'more media area' and 'greater oil capacity'. Jim Allen stated after speaking with engineers that, "the average filter in the average car at the average OCI/FCI is less than 50% loaded when removed." And when it comes to using a larger filter to increase overall oil capacity, whatever increase it likely insignificant to total oil capacity. Also, highly unlikely to have any effect on engine wear and/or longevity.

In this case the mention of vehicle warranty is very important, imo. Kia with that lifetime (or whatever) warranty, should something happen while using a non spec OF, there would be no filter warranty coverage. Not only that, but I suspect that if Kia found a non spec OF on the vehicle, they too would NOT cover any engine warranty in the event of a failure.

Lastly, the 51334/(Fram 9688) and spec equivalents plenty big enough for the Kia 1.6L, all day, every day.

I was about to mention that SayJac but you beat me to it. Every oil change on Hyundai/KIA I see with PZ 37 or 14612/10 I cringe and shake my darn head. There is nothing wrong with using a WIX 51334 honestly. Auto Extra 618-51334 filters we use without issue. Good luck finding a “larger/bigger” filter too. I’d rather use OEM or Auto Extra 51334. Just my thoughts as I work on these vehicles daily

I've been running the Wix 51344, which is a little bigger, as an experiment.
However it has a nitrile ADBV.
Next, I'm trying a FRAM Tough Guard 9688.
