Winter is here

Single digits here the past few days... I had to pull out my thick ski gloves when spending time outside. Normally I don't wear any gloves at all.

[There is a road that I drive on with no cell reception, but houses every mile or so. The highway has cell coverage but it can be a few miles to walk--but in that case I'm calling for a tow.] Get to work, pull off snow pants, pull off the wool socks, change into work shoes (out of boots).

Felt strange to put on so much clothing for what ultimately is a 100 yard walk into the office.

Anyone else have to dress up for this winter snap? I usually don't do much, as anything in the 20's and up is pretty tolerable with not much more than a ski jacket and a hat.

Snow pants while driving...wow that is a new one. Were your windows down the whole way?

No, didn't think to just carry the pants into the car, and then leave them in the back. Then again, they were appreciated during the 100 yard walk into work, as it was about 0F when I got to work. My dress pants are pretty thin, like most dress pants.

My old Jetta, diesel powered, snow pants would have been necessary, if I didn't have heated seats. That thing took 10 miles before I had hints of heat. That car I did have to drive with the windows cracked, so as to prevent window fogging.

Just as predicted by NWS. Freezing mist started about thirty minutes after I put the car in the garage. The school PM traffic is crawling and every other wise guy is doing a 180 trying to negotiate our corner. I see another mailbox 4X4 post in my future. Hope the ice doesn't get so bad that it takes the 345 KV towers down like it did in 06(?). Now let me think, where did I put that Coleman stove. BAH HUMBUG

I've left the heater on, but it doesn't run much. Today was a bit warm so when I get home tonight (8:45 or so) I'll probably have to kick on the A/C. I had it blasting in the car today.

Those up North just don't understand lol.

I wear dress slacks to work, supposed to wear dress shoes too. A bit too thin if I had to hike it any distance. A thin jacket to get to the car, with a ski jacket in the back, would be fine--but I'd need a set of snow pants too in the car.

Yesterday it was 0 or 10 or somesuch, so I wore thermal underwear, and suffered all day. Today I skipped as it was 20, and noticed it a bit cool on the walk into work.

It's winter, no winning. At least I didn't have to clean any windows.

The extra clothing is tedious but what really gets me as I am over 50 now is how bad my hands dry out in the winter. I wash my hands a lot and if I don't keep a decent lotion on them they dry out to the point they will split open at the finger tips, usually right under the tip of the fingernails. So far so good, as I have been putting a product called Working Hands on every night at bed time. Probably should wear some type of glove at night to let the Working Hands work even better.

Been cranking my dehumidifier lately, not sure what level I should have, but "comfort" (50%) has the windows icing over nicely when the temps drop to 0F at night. Recirculating hot water, not forced hot air, though.

Not sure why but I haven't had problems with dry skin yet this year. Winter has been kinda mild so far--an unseasonable cold snap has been followed by an unseasonable warm snap, and I guess it averages out to "seasonal".

If I lived in Florida there is no amount of money that would entice me to move somewhere cold! Smart move on your part!
