I have a 2002 Chevy wth the 8.1 Liter. I looked down the oil fill tube, i noticed a small amount of sludge buildup, more than likely from the previous owner using conventional oil for longer OCI. I have been trying many different oils, synthetics and part synthetics, been using mobil 1 high mileage for about 4k miles now, im close to needing an oil change, will running some MMO for about 500 to 1000 miles work and be ok. thanks for the help

Ive seen many pics of othes who have used mobil 1 synthetic..spotless engines! I used to use it all the time, until one day, i noticed abuot a quart and a half under my car: ( Looks like it cleaned up everyting so well, the crud keeping the seals closed were clean! So, i stopped using it.
I supose Auto rx would be the organic way to go. Amsoil flush is supposed ot be really good stuff. Of course, using mobil 1 to clean up sludge, takes time..anda good fitler to catch the crud. Its not an overnight thing, in my case, took me 2 years, and 7-9 thousand miles before my leak started.

I just want to point out that there are many things that lead to sludge. If you use the car for short trips and it does not get fully warmed up, this can lead to sludge. Since it was a used car we do not know how the previous owner drove the car.

I would also check the thermostat to make sure it is not stuck open, it might also be a good idea to check your PCV Valve and any hoses in the PCV system.

I do not know if MMO will help, auto-rx will help, but you need to address the thermostat and PCV system 1st, and you must make sure the car is fully warmed up before shutting it down, no short trips, if you do this then auto-rx will work fine.

Others can chime in about MMO since I have no experience with it in the oil.

Give it some time. I have bought several used cars that were slightly dirty inside. I used valvoline Synthetic at 3000 mile change intervals. After 2 or 3 changes they were as clean as a whistle inside! Your results may vary, depending on the level of grime, if its to bad, you may need to try the ARX.

ill try its not a heavy sludge or anything i just noticed a varnish with a slight build up in the bottom of the fill hole.

How do you know it was M1 cleaning that caused your leak? No offense...
