Does MMO burn away?

I put 16 ounces MMO into a 6 quart fill of Super Tech syn to run a 5k OCI. I was hoping to clean the upper cyl area. 2 K in and no oil loss, no pressure change and no darkening of the oil. The varnish is gone around the fill area, but what does that mean??? I was going to add another 16 ounces MMO if the oil level dropped. Now, I will just change the filter and add the pint for the last 1000 miles of the OCI. I am at 107 K on this engine.

I am not sure what to think. I expected dark oil and it to flash off. It has not happened. Has it done any good, don't know until I pull the covers. At least I have a shiny oil fill hole! I perceive better cold starts as well.

16 ounces in a 6 qt fill is not much, running MMO for the last 1000 miles of an OCI is not what they suggest either. I've done that many times, it does work, however it is not the mfg's intended use of the product. It will slow down cleaning, especially in a 6 qt sump.

Many people 'ease' so to speak into the use of MMO. Next time try a pint for the full OCI, then at the last 1000 miles add another pint, as you've planned. Or if you like add a qt for the last 1000 miles of the OCI. Or bite the bullet and run a qt for the full OCI if you really want to do some cleaning of your engine. A full qt in a 6 qt sump for a 5000 mile OCI won't hurt a thing. I save that for the winter time, but have done it many times during summer months as well over the years.

Don't feel bad though it seems a lot of people start off with MMO the same way you did!
