Will engine oil clean this up?

I struggled trying to install a new air filter: in the process, I smeared it slightly with my greasy fingers and I can see some dirt around the area.

Finally, it was installed but the air filter is not 100% clean. Mostly clean though.

I think some of those very small specks of dirt will get sucked into the engine and into the combustion chamber and will be combusted... leaving some after product.
THis can't be good for the engine.

Question is this-- will this after-product be cleaned by the engine oil? my understanding is that the oil never touches the combustion chamber.

if varnish is all you care for (visual), run stoddard solvent and be happy about it at the end of the day.

If compression (oil control rings, etc.), oil passages are all you want to clean, run AutoRx.

Engine oil itself suppose to be able to maintain it's own cleanliness (suspend the dirt) but does not do much about aggressively cleaning out already formed deposits. Those jobs are usually reserved for some other more aggressive cleaners such as solvents, etc.

Q.

If it's just finger smear, I wouldn't worry about it. Any micro dirt particles stuck to the grease will probably stay there.

Get a spare rag and soak it with some Simple Green or any biodegradable degreaser to clean off the prints.

carb cleaner will do, just keep it away from the seals. removal of the rockers and oil pan and cleaning them separately will help a lot too. you can do these activities annually or after every 4 oil changes if you desire.

no one prevents you if you do this every oil change though :P

Are you saying you got some grease on your air filter while installing it? If so, just a spot or two won't hurt a thing.
