I'm using a quart every 2 thousand, BMW X5 93,000 miles. I was worried but, here It sounds like as long as I keep up the 7500 mile synthetic changes. I might just get 250,000 miles out of this engine. I hope so, I really like this car.

I think this part is really important, and a lot of people ignore it.
I had a friend that used to brag that his car only gets the best synthetics (Royal Purple) and when I asked how often he changes his oil, his reply was, when the little oil light comes on (he was talking about the oil pressure idiot light).

Uh,thats a little over kill isnt it??

I also think that checking oil every fillup is excessive (I do it about once a month) but manufacturers try to tag this stuff to something that is performed regurarly, so every fillup seems ligical.

So just like this says normal piston engines burns small amounts as well so he refuses to use synthetic. While I dont agree with him thats an intristing theory.

If this is true, i mean, when synthetic oils are burned up, it leaves a residue that's worse than dino oils, then we should be thinking about the following:

I have a car that burns oil (over 100K miles)1/2 qt per 2000 miles. Would I be better off using dino oil since it burns faster than syn oil? I really don't want residue of burnt syn oil accumulate inside the combustion chamber and on piston. I need to think about it now. Maybe syn oil does have a neglected disadvantage. what do you guys think?
