why would kreen make the engine louder?

I did the cylinder soak treatment on my 2004 corolla a few days ago. No kreen in the gas tank or crankcase, just 1.5 oz in each cylinder for about 3 hours. The 1.8l engine has 167k on it and has been very well maintained and had no issues prior to treatment - I just wanted to try the stuff after reading about it here. Now the engine is louder, not in a bad way, more like if you replaced the stock exhaust with a performance exhaust. Can anyone explain why that is?

I'm not looking to change the oil yet, as the "normal" kreen treatment is to add 16oz to the crankcase and then drive 1000 miles. I've got 6oz at most in there. If 6oz thins it out that much, 16oz must REALLY thin it out.

dont put that garbage in your car. send me your address and ill come get rid of it for you......my truck could use another treatment

On the Kreen can it says add 16oz to the crankcase for normal treatment, or add 32oz for "purge" treatment. There is no mention of an oz/qt dosage on the can or on the kano labs website.

Piston soak? Did you gun the engine to blow it out? Pop a hole in the muffler or engine pipe, exhaust manifold gasket? It happens, nothing to do with the piston soak, just bad luck/timing.

did you evacuate the fluid before putting spark plugs in and cranking? This engine has 450 cc per cylinder that with 10:1 compression gives you exactly the volume of kreen you pured in.

I guess if you really hydrolocked the engine it wouldn't start. But still concerned something happened.

I did a number of piston soaks including one with kreen in my corolla with no abnormal noises.

everything is fine and the car runs great, its just a little louder is all. I did not evacuate the kreen, I just followed the directions and let it soak for 3 hours.

I spoke to Kano last year and was told the dosage is based on a 5qt sump. 3oz per qt is just a round off but is accurate enough. You wouldn't put 16 oz in your lawnmower right?
Overdosing on something like this can have negative effects, more in this case is not better.

that's good to know. So I've got less than half in there of what they recommend

Yep no problem with the small amount that found its way into the sump. Next OC put some in the oil and get the rings from underneath, if the engine is not sludged run it the entire OCI.
After the solvent have flashed off there are still some additives left that are harmless.
I would not do as KANO suggest and add more at 1k. I'm sure they know what they are doing but i rather be safe than sorry.

This seems quite logical, but since we're not there we may never know.
