None of four VW models — Jetta, Atlas, ID.4 and Tiguan — score above 50 points out of 100, but The Tiguan was the worst, at just 17 points.
From your favorite CR.........
What are the issues?

When I bought my VW the first-ever, I was shocked that the VW customers in service knew nothing of the constant
VW reliability bashing. They were astounded... What stigma. All had nothing but positives any many were decade-long owners.
Of course, everything made has issues and CR has never been a trusted source for me.

No clue on this one. Our 2020 (a sample size of one) has only had the Internet/phone module fail and that died about a month after we bought the car. Otherwise it’s been trouble free for 28,000 miles and a little over one year. My only real complaint is that the Budack cycle engine is rather noisy.

I never owned a VW, but the reputation proved true when my brother mistakenly bought new a late (??) 1990s Jetta - the one known for the defective coils that VW replaced one by one as they failed. Besides the coils, what an absolute POS that car was. Maybe they make them better these days, but once bitten, twice shy.

The Tiguan was VW way late and clumsily trying to jump onto the SUV bandwagon, while their customer base liked their economy cars.

If you're meeting a lot of fellow owners in the service department, the brand may have a reliability problem.

Just because the service department is busy doesn't mean there is a reliability problem. People may just be doing their regularly scheduled maintenance.

Also, do people actually sit there and wait for their cars to be done these days? Don't most dealerships offer loaners or shuttle rides? I guess it depends on brand and/or specific dealership.

CR report on the suzuki Samurai!###@ Don't get me started!!!
Should we bring that up? I mean, that was what, 30-40 years ago? Car makers change in that time--as do editorial staffs. VW might have been making crap in the 90's but be a completely different car company today. Same with any rag of a magazine.

FWIW, I have no idea what CR is objecting to. Not defending them, just applying the same logic between complaining about car maker past sins and auto rag past sins.

As QP said they were all oil change customers getting the scheduled maintenance and the wait time was like
20 minutes only. Very impressive.

Here you have two choices for VW service-an 80-mile spread.
so, they wait unless it is a big ordeal.
