Why The Distaste For The Tiguan?

A product and by extension a brand is considered good quality, when the buying public values it worth.
MMR values of tiguans are in the toilet
Total cost of ownership data sets seem to be higher then its competition.
Finally the lowest of evidence is ancedtoal experiences shared on public forums.

You sure on MMR values? Tiguan had poor resale I concur pre pandemic but I have known a few folks leasing them last year choose get a loan for payoff and then sold to dealers or Carvana for $7k-10k profit.

Maybe it dropped back?

The two best cars I have ever owned were essentially on the CR do not buy list - an 1996 Olds with the 3.1, and my Xterra which I still have. The one I did purchase on the CR good buy list was a Ford that was supposedly Ford's most reliable car ever or some such drivel - a Grand Marquis. It was a good car but I replaced every sensor and had one head rebuilt - burnt up a valve - before 100K, not to mention the trim and interior fell completely apart in just a few years. Must have gotten one assembled Monday morning.

The Tiguan is a great SUV brought down by an uninspiring engine. I felt it was a little twitchy and it's a bit small for my tastes.

I'd rather have a lower-spec Atlas than a higher-spec Tiguan.

Can't get 31MPG in the Atlas though. The engine takes a little getting used too and IMO it's the drive-by wire programming that makes it twitchy.

After 43,000 miles or whatever it is our Tiguan is still doing “fine”. Not like my old BMW but at the same time not like our Toyota cars either.

I’m just glad I got 0% financing when I did. It’s been better than I hoped and a competent but not exceptional vehicle.

The Tiguan is purchased by people who do not research their big $$ buy. This vehicle is the worse in dependability, reliability, and MPG too. Why would anyone buy one when nearly all other makes offer far better fair?

I'd be embarrassed to be seen driving one, frankly!
The MPG is a bit off , rated at 22 /27 but we average 31 MPG in summer and 29 winter mostly highway over 114k miles and 4.5 years. Beyond reliability not being predicted well other items are off.

Just one owners experience and hold final judgement till we hit 150k miles which is what I think is the “new” milestone of vehicle.
