I have tried to get an answer from Redline, but after 2 - 3 weeks still no answer. Does anyone know why Redline does not specify SN on their oils? Does it have anything to do with a major change in their additive package (something put in or taken out)?

I thought that I heard that some of the newer bottles do say recommended for SN. Regardless, they do not submit any oils to the API so it doesn't matter IMO.

Redline doesn't meet any API specification. They just put the latest spec on the bottle and claim you can use it without any concern. Redline uses higher levels of ZDP so their oil would not qualify. I like Redline a lot, it's just not an API certified oil.

all their oils have the sn rating on them!!!iam looking at a qt of 5w20 sitting right here..changed oil last week. probably is an old bottle you have.red line does extensive tests on all their products!!!they don't just slap on a rating!!

You may want to take another look at that bottle and see if there is an actual API donut pictured there.

To the best of my knowledge, Redline states that their oils are "recommended for API this and that", but they don't actually carry any API approvals. As was noted by a previous poster, Redline uses very rich additive packs in their oils, way over current API limits.

This. I know they're looking at a low Saps product.

Good to know, thanks. I'd like to see a low sap Recline PCMO line of oils.

That's a cool name for motor oil. Just sit back, recline, and watch it do the job...

And yes, the last bottles of 0W-30/0W-20 I've used had the "recommended for SN" line on them, but of course NO API 'donut".

I am guessing that the change from SM to SN was a reduction of a zinc package? If so, I can understand why they would not list it meeting SN.

Redline does not meet any API spec, not just SN.

LOL

All,

I posed the OP's question to Cameron at RedLine and he responded with this:

Quote:
Our passenger car motor oils have shipped from our factory since early 2011 with the SN listing, as our formulas were modified with many facets of that latest API spec in mind. In some areas, we exceed those API specs as your members have duly posted.

We don't certify our products with API and we are careful to avoid any confusion. Our products are suitable for use for API SN applications. We feel that enthusiasts and those that know the high quality products understand these details.

Thanks to Cameron for his response!

Wayne
