Why no Porsche recommendation for 5w-30?

Hi,
Luxster - You said this:

"In fact Doug you are not any different that that since you use Delvac in your P-car that is not on A40 list, so please follow your own advice."

My own advice is to use a 5W-40 lubricant (the most common on the A40 Lists) with a HTHS Vis around 4 in my circumstance - for a very sound reason!

But thank you anyway...................

The engineers in question have access to vastly more data than the rest of us, so their opinions are better balanced and fact-based than ours could ever be.

I think we're all trying to select what's best for ourselves. The problem with oil is that the performance outcomes of oil choices are unmeasurable by the owners. This ambiguity opens the door for extravagant conspiracy theories about how auto manufacturers are conducting harmful secret experiments on your car's engine.

The happy ending to this internet fairy tale is always un-approved products from a specialty blender and oil marketer that are the only way to save your car from factory-recommended harm. For Porsche, I believe it's Brad Penn oils that save the day...

For the most part, I've run 0W40 - 5W40 for most of the miles on the car. I have played around with 15W50 for a track session as my tuner suggested but switched back to 5W40 once done.

Just something I don't mess around with. As everyone stated, I look for the Porsche approval and go about my business.

Been on the Mobil1 tip for a while but recently swapped out for Pennzoil Ultra to check it out. I would send in my UOA for this next oil change but as most Porsche owners know, its impossible to drain all 9+ quarts of oil in one sitting so there would be at least a quart of Mobil1 in this Pennzoil which... defeats the purpose in my opinion.
