I am in no way being smart, but if that were the case (and it might well be), why come out with the Ranger to begin with?

Admittedly, it was regular cab 2WD, and the only options were the I-5, tow hitch, and traction control. But that is what people like about a smaller pickup. A basic bare bones, for a good price, that they can do a little light hauling with. The new Colorado is much bigger. And also a lot more $$$. When I was looking at pick-ups this year, I was originally looking at an F-150 2WD, with a locker and the 2.7, and not much else. I could have got it for about $26k, out the door. I looked for the cheapest Colorado, a 2WD 4 banger, and it was about the same $$$. And, I could only find a couple here in the Denver Metro, so equipped. Same price correlation as the trim levels go up. The new Ranger is going to be the same. All of these guys hanging out, waiting to replace their old Ranger with a new one, are going to have sticker shock. If really wanted an inexpensive smaller pickup, I'd go look at a Frontier. IMHO.

You read my mind to the tee. The new Ranger is supposed to come in a regular cab, but I do have my eyes on the Frontier, for the reasons that you listed.

Agreed, but there are many within the "active lifestyle" subset that hate trucks, but want a "truck," and a four door pickup appeals to them.

Two big things have to happen to bring a vehicle to market: You need a vehicle to build and a place to build it.

You talk about what needs to change in the vehicle to bring it to market, now look at what needs to change in manufacturing to bring it to market.

Everything.

The reality of what you said is so simple, yet it's something that I never considered (!)

Move production of Focus and C-Max to Mexico
Tool stamping and assembly at Wayne for the Ranger
Develop supply chain for new Ranger in N. America
Begin producing vehicle

Rumors began about the Ranger coming back in 2015. Ford officially announced it in early-2017. It will begin production in 2019, probably as a 2020 model.

It never occurred to me that they'd have different suppliers for the US Ranger, versus the overseas version. You framed the argument in a way that makes sense. Thank you.

Is the Ranger only made in left hand drive ? You won't get the 5 cyl diesel because it's too small and it smells.

Ranger is rated to tow 3500kg (7700lbs). I drive one at work everyday, and they tow really well.

Well they put the 5 pot diesel in the big Transit (350) vans, so definitely not too small. We had (before it rolled over...) one in a big work body Transit and it seemed to do ok. Going up hills wasn't its strongest point though. I'm sure in the Ranger it would do well. If they wouldn't put such a premium on the diesel I think it would sell better...

I'd rather have a Tacoma.

~30-33k buys you a decent V6 4x4 Tacoma. In fact, when my brother was looking at them, there was a loaded TRD they were willing to let go for 33k.

It'll be interesting to see how they compare in price. We all know what'd hold it's value more.

Resale? We don't need no stinking resale!

A good truck can be run until it's done.

Ford won't make them like that again, so I'm pretty indifferent about the new ones until proven. Hopefully they turn out to be good trucks.

I bet it will have the same ecoboost engines in the escape.....I hope they offer a good naturally aspirated engine.

I would still rather have a fullsize for towing. The biggest issue I had with my Colorado was not being able to see around my boat. There were other issues like it had smaller brakes, underpowered 2.5 engine and less interior room.

IF they do that....it would be a very strong contender.

The Rat is that color and drive line in along cab with 125" wheel base.

Ford loves selling those $40,000+ F-150 trucks, I'm actually surprised they decided to bring back the Ranger.

Not everyone needs a full-size truck. If I'm not towing or hauling anything, I find driving around in a full-size truck rather annoying where I live. Tiny parking lots crammed full of cars where I have to do 20 point turns, handling like an ocean tanker, etc. For people who need a truck to haul stuff, a full-size is a no-brainer. The mid-sized trucks are for people who only need a truck sometimes.

Look at the Tacoma and how well it sells considering the V6 gets full-sized truck fuel economy.

The 3.2 5 cyl diesel will out pull that, and be more economical too.

Never bought a VW with its china trans or yugo engine.

Who would buy a China car?
'
Didn't ford sneek a garbage china trans in the stang?
