No, the Ranger plant is still open and producing rangers at the rate of 1 shift per day. The actual closing date remains sometime late this fall.

You must have some serious cash to buy a new truck for destruction and construction. Most boys would be please with something from the 90s if they know it would see some heavy duty work right away. Additionally, 3 years commute is nothing for a Yaris. Either you or your commute must be tough on vehicles.

Ford's putting the DOHC Duratec in the Ranger now? I bet that makes for one fast little truck.
The 2.3L DOHC Duratec I4...not the V6. It has been offered since mid 2001. Not the fastest truck, but lots of owners do get 30 MPG + on the highway.
Isn't the 4-cylinder in the Ranger now a 2.5L engine?
Does it call for 5W-20, or for 30-weight, like the 4.0L SOHC?

Ford used the old cast-iron SOHC 2.3 until 1997. Then they took that same engine and stroked it out to 2.5L. That was used from 1998-2001. The Duratec 2.3 was introduced mid-year 2001 and is still used in the 2011s.

Yes the Yaris got beat during the commute, but toyota wouldnt do any service required on the vehicle - it needed brake bleeding - they refused at 2 different dealers, it needing clutch bleeding or repair they refused. it need transmission fluidi changed - they refused. I was sick of their "deny service" policy. BTW, the Brake pedal was very spongy and went to the floor - not safe!

That's the motor I have in my '98 XLT (and I believe Ford back spec'd that engine for 5W20 too, though I don't use it).
