Why I like Costco gas

There's many threads on here that cover it, even from a guy that delivers gas. Basically all gas in a particular area comes from the same terminals. Wouldn't make sense for there to be several different terminals in the same area. We get deliveries around here from tankers that have 10+ million gallons. You think each gas station brand is going to have their own 10+ million tanker delivering gas to their stations? It's basically all gas from the same terminal. The only difference is the additive package so each gas station gets their own additive package depending on the brand. But it's the same gas from the same terminal. Costco seems to do their own thing where they have their own additive package on site instead of being blended at the terminal.

Those prices are very high, so I feel for you. I would also choose Costco, I assume you have to he or already are a member and that costs?

As to the Top Tier thing, I had heard they use Kirkland Signature gasoline, touted as having 12x more additives.. I would have a hard time believing that, that the cheapest (inexpensive) gas also has more additives that make it better than name brands. (Also, if that is no longer true, let us clarify that.)

But, as stated in another thread, even just today, I don't care if it is Top Tier or the worst of the worst Unbranded fuel, it moves so quickly you'll never have a problem with bad gas. Never.

Its America buy gas wherever you want.. however FUD is not FACT. I should now throw in a few smilies to lighten this up?

I would trust costco 100x more than independent owned gas station.

That being said I buy gas at costco rarely.. because it is out of the way and inconvenient.

Nearest Costco is 30 min away, lucky to get in, too long of lines to wait, Shell is my fav.

Loaded my belly with Costco premium as I'm going north (speaking of upstate NY).
At half tank I fill with the least expensive good regular gas at sea level. Once you drive into the hills the price goes up.
I've always liked giving the Volvos the 91 asked for when on the highway.

$2.99 at Bj's here, same price as Costco. Costco is Top Tier, BJ's is in my usual commuting route and I get an additional $0.10 discount per gallon with my BJs credit card. About $0.45 - .055 per gallon less than the retail stations nearby.

I figured that with prices as they are in my area, just about every third tank of gas is free. Wait time is generally minimal for me as I go early in the AM. Plus there's an additional 4% discount when I use the Costco Visa card.

The trick is to time your visits for when the warehouse is closed but the gas station is still open. I just plan to run certain errands in the area when I need fuel.

Costco is not much cheaper here. $.03 per gallon less is all. Not worth the drive.

Only save about $0.20 here. Not worth going across town for me.

I also have heard some stories of sub par fuel. Nothing super factual, but enough to make me stick with a closer top tier station.

I hear you. I’m sure they have off hours like any place. The juice just isn’t there for me. I’d be passing like 3 or 4 stations on the way.

For me 35 mile round trip. As a senior widower I just don't buy much other than gas and oatmeal cookies (fiber you know) I let my membership lapse when the wifey died plus my driving dropped by 60%. Plus gas at regular stations is $2.859 right now. Thinking about it though as my new lady friend is egging me on.

I tend to agree with this assessment. What proved it for me was when a gasoline pipeline broke between Phoenix and El Paso near Tuscon back in July of 2003. Within 2 days over half the gas stations in Phoenix were out of gas. It all comes from the same pipeline.

I tend to agree with this assessment. What proved it for me was when a gasoline pipeline broke between Phoenix and El Paso near Tuscon back in July of 2003. Within 2 days over half the gas stations in Phoenix were out of gas. It all comes from the same pipeline.

I used to get a newsletter at work telling you what came into the harbor and the basic wholesale prices for various fuels like gasoline and oil. So it was all from various tankers and all the gas stations went there to get their gas. It was a gas power plant that was permitted for oil so they'd need to know the price of oil in case they ever had to switch from gas to oil.

I live in the same area, even in the same county as one of the stations, and it is still at least a half hour drive round trip to get to it.
That's why I use Costco gas so irregularly.
If I have to go there, and I need it, and it is priced right that day, sure.
However, lately I have been beating their pricing by .10 or better at a local Sunoco.
Without the half hour trip.
