Beautiful cars that made the contemporary British stuff look downright great build-quality wise! Our neighbor had one that he had restored to absolute stock (as much as possible) and I got to be in it before they moved. Claustrophobic interior, controls a bit odd, gave off 'amateur built' vibes like an Italian Lotus...everything you want out of a hand built exotic! Wonderful car to drive for what it is, but a bit of a beast, which is most of the fun.

Did I mention beautiful?

You do know that it was a mid engine car don't you? The engine sat behind the driver's compartment. I used to work for a guy named Sam Bivens that was the GON of my day. He owned a paint and body shop and was always buying up run down cars and fixing and repainting them and then reselling them. I liked cars so much that I worked for him for two years for free when I was in high school and I got quite an aducation! He owned a Pantera back in the day (1973 IIRC) that had been recovered after being stolen and he said it was a complete POS. The motor was a 1960s design that had been adapted to incorporate a lot of the then new new anti-smog devices and was complete kludge and had very little performance and it was very hard to access. Also because of where the engine was located, the driver's compartment was small and cramped and was both hot and noisy because the engine was just inches behind the driver and the fiberglass body did little to dampen the noise.

It was nice looking design but because of the anti-high performance mandated by the insurance companies and the greatly increased anti-smog regulations it was a dog performance wise.
