I don't think I've ever read that on here, nor would it make sense. Redline's POE would be more effective at cleaning than anything put in your typical PCMO designed to simply keep things clean.

It was posted here.

And nobody questioned it I see. Good grief. Pennzoil isn't "Mr. Clean", and given how robust Redline is formulated and the inclusion of POE, I would expect it to be a significantly better cleaner.

Anything that is changed on-time with synthetic doing a better job than conventional. That said anything carrying the Dexos spec would do an excellent job according to the Lubrizol tool.

Which oil keeps things cleaner? ... It would have to be Valvoline Premium Blue Restore 10w-30. Lots of threads on it. Its expensive, and has a lot of carbon-cleaning POE in it. Not meant to be used repeatedly. Just once every 100k miles or so, or on a problem stuck-ring engine. Its kinda thick, so use only in summer.

As for non-exotic oils, at least not as exotic and $$ expensive as Valvoline Restore oil above, I've never seen much evidence that one oil is better than another, beyond the specs they meet. Any dexos1 oil has to meet higher piston deposit standards than cheaper SN GF-5 oil for example.
Other than that, look at the amount of detergents (Ca+Mg) in an oil, and I think Amsoil SS should be a good cleaner.

PP and M1 are both very "clean" oils especially for a dirty engine that needs cleaned up. Although dino at OEM intervals will do good too with PYB being the best for cleaning.

Good post.

Personally I had great results with PYB 10W-30 in older GM 2.8 and 4.3 V6s .

My aunt had a 2005 Ford Focus that lived on Ford dealer bulk oil changes at 5k miles.

Who know what they used , maybe 5W-20 Motorcraft Syn-Blend at best

Mind you it only had 55,000 after 14 years of use when she got rid of it , but it was really clean when you looked through the oil fill hole.

I hope so. Using 10w-30 in my Elantra now. I like it better than PUP and PP I used previously. Sure makes the engine quiet.

I believe that MOST modern high quality oils are very good at preventing Engines from becoming dirty in the first place, but they're pretty ineffective at actually cleaning things up.

Yea. I thought his question was about keeping and engine clean. Not cleaning it?

Good point. Good info though by ether

Can anyone tell me why HDEO oils like Rotella are good at cleaning and keeping stuff clean. Is it the heady add pack?

Thanks everyone, keep the replies coming

Yes, they are meant to keep diesel engines running clean, it doesn't burn as clean as gas and there are more deposits in those engines.

Even though theres plenty of answers above,
I have always ran PP or M1 in my truck (whoever has the rebates at the time) and through the oil fill cap i can clearly see the rocker arms still look brand new clean. As in the engine was never started. So i believe any synthetic changed on time will create almost "zero" varnish.

Probably any good brand name oil these days that has a good detergent pack. Here's 5W-20 full synthetic VOA comparisons of the total ppm amount of deterrent additive pack for example. Mobil 1 has less detergents than most of the others, yet Mobil 1 keeps engines very clean inside. And as others have said, not running the oil past it's useful life has a lot to do with how clean the engine remains.

Very strong detergent, and dispersant additive packages, they have to keep large amounts of soot in suspension without affecting the lubrication of the oil during very extended oil change intervals, 20, 25k miles, ans that is on what is afterall a conventional oil!

I think Mobil1 relies on PAO for engine cleanliness?
