Which oil filter for my Honda Fit, from RockAuto?

We have a 2009 Honda Fit with 170,000 miles on it. Numbers from Blackstone for the past 5 oil changes are all looking great. I've use Purolator BOSS, Wix XP, and Honda Genuine oil filters. However, I'd like to buy in bulk so I'm looking at RockAuto. I've been trying to sort through threads from the last two years, but I just can't seem to gather which filters are considered good nowadays.

Form this list, I would go WIX or MOTOCRAFT. With WIX I would go XP but would not hesitate using a WIX at any level, I tend to go beyond just in case something comes up and I have to push an OCI a bit.

I do like a K&N oil filter as well, but my go to is always WIX but I have used the MC filters across a VERY wide range of applications without issue. By wide range I mean I have a lot of engines to service... From sever duty offroad, to severe duty work, to daily drivers, to HM vehicles and I have run them out to 9k mi OCIs. Honestly I made those decision based of info found here or using BITOG as a spring board for further research.

I was a (yellow) P1 fan for a long time, then the changed their media several years back I read, so I ditched them altogether. I forget the details but it something like the media used to be the same as the WIX or MC filters, but them we started getting tears and filter media failures and I believed the assumption here was a manufacturing change, I jumped ship then.

Currently my LEX has a K&N, our CX-5 has a WIX (W/O ADBV) and all of the other engines around here still have MC filters on them.

I ordered some of the PG4612EX recently. They were actually closer to the FRAM equivalent 6607 style height than the 7317.

Would probably work just fine in a clean engine though. They do have silicone ADBV.

Hastings / Baldwin. They're really nice.
Those are what I use in my Honda Accord and Kawasaki motorcycle; the build quality reminds me of the Wix filters under Dana/Affina. The one for the Honda last time I bought it the date code was within a few weeks of when I ordered it, too.

Bosch 3392 is a 99% at 20um filter but it may be made in mexico and aren't good quality so I would steer clear of it.

The various mfg pg4612ex would be my choice. The baldwins are known good too but I don't know if they're 99% at 20um.
It's the 3323 on there, but I think that's a 99+ as well.

I was curious about those. Are those 99+?

What is nice about the Baldwin ??. .. They are like jobber filters with nitrile parts and pretty lame QC IMO.

Get a 6-pack of those $1.81 filters, that Honda will never know the difference. Want to save more? Change it every other OCI, just as Honda suggests; I would.
My plan is the PG4612EX's on next order. All the filter C&P's and discussions to me show the Premium Guards to be a really good choice.
I'm with these folks! Those $1.83 Various manufacturers & the EX version would be a good option. Perhaps get a selection of both? If you go over 7500 miles I'd go with the EX version. Let us know what you decide.

How does rock auto compare to eBay ? I prefer eBay myself as often there is free shipping.
I looked at eBay and the prices didn't seem much better than Amazon or RockAuto (after RA shipping). I'd rather buy from RockAuto. I just purchased 40 parts from them this month and there were no mispicks.

I failed to mention our OCI. We'll probably end up around 7,000 on this OCI. I don't like working on the cars during the winter here in the PNW. If it was just snow, that'd be fine, but I can't stand being wet and cold. Hah.

I'm opting for the PG EX!

Its like most anything else, if you're looking for the most economical or fiscally reasonable solution, it's not one size fits all and every situation is unique.
RA is great, but on many items the shipping cost and shipping times makes them an unreasonable or unfeasible option. Sometimes RA is the way to go, usually for OE parts for me. My game is to find the OEM P/N and base my search off of that across a few different resources. RA, EBAY, AMAZON, Guru sites, discount OE dealer sites. RA is definitely NOT what they used to be, but still a powerful resource.

I just ordered a Power Stop brake kit for our CX-5, its coming from RA as I was not in a hurry and it was still $10 cheaper vs other places. I added a few items to that order, ended up removing the PCV valve from that order and getting it at TOYOTA. Same price but RA wanted another 4$ to ship the PCV valve from another WH and added 3 days... For My LEXUS on the other hand, the front PS brake kit was cheaper on AMAZON. Again, a verified PN either is or is not what it says, beyond that its all about efficiency within the situation.

Very wise choice

Just go to Walmart and get a PH7317. It's basically an A02 anyway :)

There's really no good reason to buy in bulk unless you have a lot of cars using the same size filter, or if you need a filter that's expensive or obscure, which a 7317 isn't.

Avoid the -4612 filters. They are shorty cans mainly designed for cheap quicky lubes to be cheap :sneaky:

The -4610 is the correct size.

If you just want something cheap, the PG4610 is fine. I'd also trust the Beck/Arnley or the Hengst.

Also, notice that Rock Auto's price on the PH7317 orange can is actually higher than Walmart, and you still have to pay shipping on top of that.

I don't shop at Walmart. ;)
