I've been using Valv Maxlife 10w40 in my 1982 Chevy C10 with almost 208k. With the new SN oil and Valvoline not using Moly, which HM oil would ya'll recommend for and old engine? Or what about using straight 30w? This truck had Pennzoil 30w most of it's life till about 8 years ago. I found a place that has tons of Havoline SM 30w.

Valvoline Maxlife STILL has moly in, just a little less than before.

That said, I would definetly use the Havoline 30wt. you have found. Havoline is good stuff, and also has the moly you want!

The new Mobil Super HM (I'm using now) intrigues me...because it is the only "resource conserving" HM. And it helps my fuel economony vs. hinders it.

Thats what I was thinking about the Havoline. I guess on the Maxlife you could ad Schaeffers 132. What about Quaker State HM, how is it and does it still have Slick 50?

Yea Mobil or Valvoline for sure Havoline isn't that bad either haven't used Havoline before but, have heard good things about it.

Havoline SN has NO moly in it.

The QS high mileage I'm not so sure about because I know at one time they were using the Slick 50 additive with it for high mileage engines. I know when Shell bought out Pennzoil/QS the Slick 50 name came with QS and they have to somewhat make it there while but, I don't feel safe using it in something nice though.

I used Maxlife in my daughter's car for a couple of years then switched to Pennzoil HM and no longer need to add make up oil between OC's. Not sure what the difference is between the two but I like Pennzoil HM now.

If you want to stick with Valvoline the Maxlife NextGen has moly in it. There is a VOA of the 5W30 on the site. I contacted Valvoline and they said it was a Group II/ Group III blend.

I think resource conserving w30's shear to w20. Are you using 10w-40?

Walmart used to have a resource conserving Super Tech HM. I think it was 5w30.

While some may say that Super Tech isnt a good oil, others have used it and it has shown to be a really good oil.

I am now using their 10W-40 HM version and I like it.The HM version is made by Warren Performance and seems to be very close to their own Mag1 HM oil which is a synthetic blend. They are also SN and the 10w30 is Resource Conserving and GF-5.

The Super Tech has moly,it may not be what some may want but since moly has been dropped by some, this seems to be a good choice.

Here are the Super Tech PDS sheets from Warren for 10w30 and 10W-40.
