Which average priced synthetic oil would you run to tackle varnish?

It makes little sense for an 'oil guy' to go with bare min maintenance and make this public unless he's running some sort of experiment. I'd not run experiments on my wife's vehicle esp if I paid for it.
He followed OEM OCI recommendations. And he got a free lifetime powertrain warranty out of it. I agree, it is a little odd for the "oil guy" but it seems worth it.

Not worth it. That motor is a 500k mile candidate. I have seen taxis with bodies falling apart but the motor is going strong.

My 2021 is a hair under 200k(Will hit 200k in a couple of weeks) and I am still managing 39 mpg. Sienna is amazing, it drives like brand new.

It is not a big sample, but after 170 miles it is not bad.

I bought a 5 qt jug of motor oil at Walmart that was used oil. Didn’t notice until I was about to pour it. Checking at the store is warranted.
At my WM, when I return these type of items, they take a look at the cap to check and ensure the tamper evident ring is not broken before proceeding with scanning.

JAG, what do you mean by checking? Opening it and break the tamper evident ring to see if the foil seal is intact or just check the ring?

Yeah I just bought some oil and remembered this report, so I tried to check the cap, but both brands had a tamper evident seal.

Redline Performance 5w-30 Euro cleaned what little varnish I had, but it is overpriced now. VRP would be my choice in todays market. You also have HPL Engine Cleaner if you want too.

Stick to VRP. It’s made to address this issue
Is it? My recollection, going back to when the product made its initial splash here, and based on an LSJr. video, is that the product was developed to clean the ring area. Over time it seems to have morphed into a product that cleans other areas of the engine, including ridding the engine of varnish.

Was my initial understanding correct, that VRP was for cleaning the ring area? When did it become capable of cleaning varnish? Have there been any tests for that capability? Can anyone point to such a test?

I'm posting this as much to test my memory as to, perhaps, challenge the assertion that VRP cleans areas other than the ring area.

Shel, are you asking me to go back in time to see how it was marketed when it first came out? Or are you asking me to do the work for you in terms of what the manufacturer currently claims?

The PDS (https://sharena21.springcm.com/Publ...379f19f8/ffdb3f9b-e06d-ee11-b828-48df379f19f8) claims it removes deposits. Varnish, can be considered a deposit as it plates to the surface of engine parts. Since this is engine oil, we can safely assume that any part of the engine that the oil comes in contact with will help remove deposits on said components. Capisce?

I know M1 EP is a good oil but does it really clean varnish??
I am not qualified or knowledgeable to answer that with scientific facts.
Some folks on this forum are qualified to say so, and why. I have used only M1 EP for decades. I read here that it cleans, not as much as HPL, maybe. Mobil1 EP is readily available at many places you shop.VRP is a good low-mileage interval (5k miles) engine oil. I could not tell you how it works, but it does. I have it in my cars now, the first oil ever to run in those engines other than M1.

By checking, I mean to make sure the tamper ring is not broken.
