Valvoline Restore & Protect is $30/5 quarts. Seems like a nobrainer...
Don’t bother with the flush, it will do more harm than good. Just go with VRP instead.Valvoline R&P or just toss in an engine flush before drain. I'm about to flush my 226k mile pickup tomorrow. Going to be fun!
I remember Kreen being highly regarded years back on BITOG. Of course, use per directions. In all three of my Corolla’s, I’ve had luck using “Kreen” in reducing (not eliminating) varnish. I don’t think this product is available for purchase anymore.

Why not buy from a reputable distributor that you don’t have to worry about used oil in your jugs?Id be open to try a cleaner. Maybe BG EPR, Liquimoly Engine Flush. VRP or M1 EP. Check all the caps, use a bore light to make sure you dont get a return of used oil. I open all mine and inspect as I buy four or five jugs at a time if a sale is going on especially.
I know it got reformulated a couple years ago because of HAZMAT policies; it may have been discontinued since then.In all three of my Corolla’s, I’ve had luck using “Kreen” in reducing (not eliminating) varnish. I don’t think this product is available for purchase anymore.
Since it carries API SP, yes, it passes.I like & use many of the Valvoline products including Valvoline EP 5W-30 in my truck so nothing against them.
What kind of additional cleaning agents (if any) are in the VRP and are they seal friendly and/or not harsh?
I recall @OVERKILL posting about the seal test or seal compatibility tests (ASTM? xyz) if one is concerned about using a higher group # oil ... Does the VRP pass that test?
Because it’s not just the distributor or the store, it’s their clientele. Why not buy from a reputable distributor that you don’t have to worry about used oil in your jugs?
Buying from places known to do this simply perpetuates that business and their bad practices.
How much Kreen did you add if you remember. In all three of my Corolla’s, I’ve had luck using “Kreen” in reducing (not eliminating) varnish. I don’t think this product is available for purchase anymore.
They do with rifles and ammo, no returns. I opened all the VRP today in front of everyone at the counter and inspected with my flashlight to make sure as i have stated before. The gal behind us gave me the look like she wanted to use it to inspect her milk and applesauce.Because it’s not just the distributor or the store, it’s their clientele.
It’s a special kind of shyster who “returns” oil to the store full of dirty oil. Which the store’s flunky puts back on the shelf.
I think they need to make certain things “all sales final” if they come in a refillable package. Motor oil, laundry soap, cleaning products, etc.
A 1/2 quart in the sump of a fresh OC. Changed Oil/filter after 2000 miles and added the other 1/2 quart with the new oil and filter. How much Kreen did you add if you remember.
Let’s just say it out loud - it’s Walmart where this is a problem. Why not buy from a reputable distributor that you don’t have to worry about used oil in your jugs?

SAE or HPS\HMX?I’ll probably get roasted for this but in that price range, I’d go with royal purple. My nephew bought a 2013 Jetta strictly for work and the dipstick and what we could see was pretty varnished. He ran a low mileage oil change and then a full 5k and he changed out the valve cover gasket and I was actually impressed how well it had cleaned. I pulled the dipstick and any varnish was gone. He decided on Royal purple on all his cars after the union outfit he works for had been using it for years. He’s only 21, but he may have taught me something.
What Wm has used oil on the shelf? First I have heard of that. Is it customers returning used motor oil and the employees just put it back on the shelf?Let’s just say it out loud - it’s Walmart where this is a problem.
And I no longer buy oil from Walmart.
