I sorta agree with Too Slick on the ACD.

Amsoil ACD 10w30

My only reservation would be hot summer days.

A..........ha..........TooSlick/TeeDub....thought the verbage sounded close. When the new format on this forum changed...I went from LargeCarMan to LargeCarManX2. Hey Ted

I think the Amsoil AMO 10w40 high performance motor oil is a good oil for diesel engines because it meets API CI+4 specifications as well as the demanding MIL-PRF-2104G combat specifications for 4 stroke and 2 stroke diesel engines.

I have run both the ACD sae30 and the HDD 5W30.
I like the HDD best. Not much difference in fuel milage, but she seems to like the HDD better as far as starting and quieter running.I have the SCT programmer and at times run her pretty hard , like today. 5000lbs in the trailer and back of the truck and running 110 to 120kph.
I was showing my friend who went with me, that I could burn the back tires when taking off. Which I did twice....I gotta stop doing that though. I just spent $1600.00 on new treads last Dec.

In the end all 3 of AMSOIL engine oil's will be fine. Even the 5W40 I would suspect.

I ran both the 15w40HDD and the 5w30 HDD.

The 15w40 worked good.

The 5w30 worked but I had my worst used oil analysis on it, heavy oxidation, but I used it in the summer maybe that's why.

Yes, but why did you buy a Cummins, you do now there is an option for a spare transmission, oh yeah I remember the PSD option as well, extended warranty and spare parts...........which I didn't take. Got a year to go. I think I'm going to do the "red" thing anyways. Plus it is easier to get .

Do you mean you are going to use Redline oil? Do you figure you will have better results with that over Amsoil?

I don't figure the results will be better, maybe? The main thing is it costs about the same and I can get the Redline in about 3 mins from my house, where the AMSOIL is a bit of pain to order that is all.

I'm curious if Redline 15W40 is better than Amsoil's AME 15W40. It is twice the price for me. But if Redline is that much better, I would consider it.

I doubt there's an easy answer for this one, especially without knowing your application? Are you also talking Ford 6.0? Personally, after reading a bit here and other places, I'll either use AME 15w40 by Amsoil or Shaeffer's 9000 diesel oil. May try both w/ analysis to see.

Ferd or a Cummins. I am just quite surprised that the Amsoil 15w40 is almost half the price of the Redline. Wanted to know if anyone had used both.

Does anyone have a used oil analysis for 6.0l powerstroke diesel with the Amsoil or the Redline?

I am due for an oil change soon (this week) I am still up in the air about what to do.

I will be going to Edmonton from Vancouver at the end of Feb with my truck so I was kinda Steering away from the Redline 15w40 only because I assume it will be cold. I will probably do the 5w40 Rotella syn or the Cat DEO(Mobil1 ?) I think, as I can get either at the same place. All are going to be about the same $. I know the 15w40 is good down to -10 C as the owners manual says but would it make much difference in the Synthetic?.

I haven't seen anyone post a used oil analysis for the REdline 15w40 but would be willing to do it if:

1) -30 is ok for the 15w40

2)someone posts a used oil analysis for the Amsoil 15w40

I would be able to post results in about 10 weeks? give or take.

I still think the 5w40 would be better for now and the red for the next oil change.

Maybe start new thread for a comparisin?

Anyways.

I would like to know as well as Sushibar if PAO 15W40 like Amsoil/Redline is good in extreme cold. Anyone? And when I say extreme, I mean -30 celsius. We have seen these temps for a few weeks already this year and we are only two weeks into winter!

"Pretty good in extreme cold" may be a bit ambiguous - but -30°C is doable. The pp of Amsoil AME is -42°C. It'll flow, but it will be viscous.

HDD or DEO are better, AMO is only marginally better.

Amsoil is very specific about the cold pour point of this oil AME. It stay's fluid to -42. I still would think ANY oil in the 15 range would work the starter for a few seconds. As long as you have good fuel with plenty of cetane and deicer and cold flow properties in it...it should fire in a few seconds.

My Old 6.9 yesterday turned over a little slowler, but fired up fine in 5-15 degree temps.
