Where to BUY Porter Cable 7424 ?

The Meguiars G110v2 is a much better machine than the Porter Cable 7424XP. And it's the same price, too.

For a few extra dollars, I would go with a Flex 3401XRG. It is even more powerful and will make the job much faster. I paid $335 shipped for mine with two qts of M105/M205 and a Flex bag from autogeek.

Let me fish it out of the closet and I'll snap a pic with my forum name on it.

Story: purchased it to buff & polish the car, never did since I'm a city dweller and I have no real space to do so.

Most online detailing supply stores carry the 7424. I own one and would not be without it.

Jusrt google auto detailing supplies and you can do some price shopping.

Autogeek.net will match any price plus offer customer service compared to those that sell for less.

Larger pads are not always better. With 6.5" pads, you will not be able to reach many tight spots.

I would get the smaller 5.5-in pads - faster correction and some polishes will break down better (like Menzerna).

FYI - Canadians:

- you can get it at Canadian Tire; and
- online - eshine dot ca is a decent place to get stuff like this without having to deal with customs brokerage etc.

But it will run the risk of damaging the paint, unlike the PC7424. I've seen first hand the results and when I can will buy a 7424.

The risk comes from not having the training and experience to use it correctly.

If you can learn on cars with low value you gain the experience toward being able to better handle the machine on cars with considerably higher value. That is how we learned to use rotaries back in the day. You don't put a high power polisher in the hands of a 10 year old and let them polish a new Jag.

Back when I was doing this kind of work for a living I was buffing 20 cars per day. Later I moved on to paint work, touch ups etc.

the lowest price on this is $118 on Amazon right now so
if Autogeek.net price-matches, then that is a goood deal...

Critic:

Please 'splain exactly why the G110v2 is a "much better machine." And if it that is really true, why bother with the Flex?

From the individuals on autogeek who have used both, I have read a few posts saying that the G110v2 is a noticeably quieter and more pleasant to use. Of course, the Griot's Garage DA is still the most powerful one.

You can read more on the differences between polishers here:

The Flex is both a forced-rotation and a dual-action polisher. You will get more correction with a Flex in less time. Unfortunately, the flex does not offer as many pad choices due to the backing plate.
