When I took my Ford escort to my local ford dealer some time ago for an oil and filter change, I go to their express lube area- in and out in twenty minutes, no problem there. I have never really given much thought about what is included in the price of this service. It's a fixed price for most passenger vehicles- $33 including taxes for a 10 point inspection, filter and "up to five litres of oil". FIVE LITRES OF OIL for a car that takes four litres of the slippery stuff.
The components are clearly itemised and priced to show that the car took five litres of oil (5 litres of oil at $2 a litre)
My point is ,the car is due for its lube shortly. Should I ask for the fifth litre to go or tell them not to charge me for it.
Your comments would be appreciated.

Reason number 9,023,282 why you should change your oil yourself.

Apparently they charged you more than they should have. That's the way dealers do business.

It says up to 5 liters, most places won't give you the extra quart, but you can ask.

Bring an old quart bottle, or a mason jar with a lid

. That oil will come from a huge drum.

What's fun is the "Truck & SUV" oil change that's up to SIX quarts for $4 more

That works in reverse for me. My Ford dealer charges $21.95 for an oil change service including filter. It states UP TO 5 QTS. But my truck takes 6. They put in 6 and sometimes even 7

and don't charge me any extra. I guess all the people that take less than 5 quarts are subsidizing me, thanks

Contacted my local Ford dealer regarding their practice of charging for five litres of oil when the car only takes four, it apparently is only for accounting purposes only regardless of how much oil the car takes. I will take advantage of the price of their oil at two bucks a litre, and get twenty litres of the stuff and do my own changes in future.
By the way ,for those interested, my Ford dealer states their Motorcraft oil is made by Petro-Canada.
