I want a diesel truck, but don't want or need anything more than a half ton. 18/26 mpg sound about right? I heard something about Ford and GM having one in the works, but how about Dodge?

I talked with a few owners of the older Dodges with the 12V Cummins, who can get 25mpg driving under on state roads. The best that I've heard is 28mpg, and low 20s isn't uncommon. I've hit 20 mpg a few times in my 2003 Dodge, and it seems that I might be able to do low 20s in a flat area driving under 65 mph.
Dodge makes a fancy, fast 1/2 ton, which is worth looking at for ideas on better aerodynamics that might be useful on the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Most seem to quickly put on MEGA BAJA HULK HOGAN SWAMP TIRES, and while the heavier trucks do need good tires for safe traction a very good light AT or heavy duty highway tire will often do fine and provide better mileage. The biggest area of opportunity is with tuning for better mileage, but it seems that everyone wants lots and lots of sometimes stupid horsepower levels with lots of black smoke.
Anyway, a carefully set up Dodge diesel might get you to at least low 20s, maybe better, and it would be no bigger than the 1/2 ton.

When are the half ton diesels coming?

likely never... toolish joe schmuck driver can't analyze anything, and has to have the highest horsepower numbers possible, else they can't feel superior.
Im not holding my breath.
Where did that come from? Sounds like someone who quotes the highest gas mileage number....![]()

I would love to see Dodge offer a ram with the liberty's old diesel engine. That would be perfect.

How does Europe get away with a diesel in every garage? Are they choking on soot? A nice 4 cylinder Pukeout turbo diesel would suit me just fine in my Wranglers. Throw a decent MANUAL gear box behind it and enjoy an economical jeep.
