Got a couple bottles of STP Gas Treatment on clearance for 67 cents at Oreillys. Wondering if they have PEA in them?

I normally add anything but techron to my tank, but it was 67 cents each so i figured i could buy them and research later.

I used a bottle and couldnt believe how bad the engine ran.I even added dri gas thinking the STP had water in it.Ran bad until I refilled the tank and drove a couple more days.Never using that stuff again. Its only Gumout or Techron for me....

Marathon advertises their fuel "contains STP additives"
even had commercials featuring "the King" a few years back.

what's in stp?
a magic chemical,(unicorn tears)that flushes money from your wallet, and sends a few cents on the dollar to replenish Richard Petty's hat and sunglasses fund.

Well like i said i paid 67 cents for it but after reading the ingredient list i am un sure if i will even use it. Without finding a UOA on it i don't know what it contains exactly, might even have lead in it?

STP advertised their products as containing "jet fuel"

Kerosene is a primary component of JP-8 so I guess that's true.

I just used techron this oil change and still have another bottle of it because it was BOGO @ AZ, so i didn't really need this stuff, but unless someone can convince me otherwise i'm not sure i even want it in my tank. Maybe ill put it in the Taurus.

You can get the same result as STP by buying a quart of diesel or kerosense and pouring it into the tank, what it basically does is works as a solvent, and cleans like that, it is similar to the trick of transmission fluid in the fuel

Not this again.
K. What solvent is in transmission fluid that makes it clean anything? Or what detergents are in transmission fluid that help it clean?
What's so trick about it.

it isn't he additive pack or the solvent in the fluid. Diesel fuel for example can be used to clean oil out of oil filters, we do that at work before tossing them, fill the diesel truck oil fitlers with fuel and the oil drops out faster, the Transmission Fluid itself is more of a solvent than gasoline is, same with diesel fuel. STP uses kerosene as a solvent, cleaning residue off of the injectors. Now the problem is in the concentration of the little STP bottle to a typical (12+ gal) car tank, you're not going to see much if anything.

I heard the following explanation of ATF in gas offered just recently on another board:

Quote:
ATF in the gas is old school and worked....on older cars. it could also be sucked some in through the brake booster vacuum, then dump some down the throat of the carb, kill the engine and let it sit for a half hour. fire it up , let it idle for a few minutes, then start revving it up. it would clean internal combustion parts real good( IMO)

also used ATF in a 74(?) chevelle( 350 engine) that had been sitting in the woods for about 4 years. drained the oil, filed with ATF, drained the gas tank, added fesh gas with some ATF in it, did all the other stuff that needed tro be done to a car that had been sitting for about 4 years in the woods.
took a bit to get it started, and when it started...holy cow was it spittin and sputterin!! sticky valves bad! let it sit there and idle until it was warmed up, then put ATf in the brake booster vacuum and dumped some down the carb. let it sit for a few cigarettes, then fired it up, put it in drive, and took it for the 45 mile backroads ride to my friends. by the time we got it there, it was purrin.

but, im not sure if it would be a good idea on the new vehicles out today. I would be concerned with it damaging any of the expensive sensors.

Seriously, I think they are overpriced and not very effective, unless you count leaving a slimy short-lasting shine as "effective". Might as well spray WD40 all over your interior and tires.

STP is a good corporate fit.

If you already buy it, you still can use it. The important part is never overdose it since it is mainly kerosene, it will make the engine runs bad if it is too much.
I think the red bottle helps to absorbs water/moisture from fuel.

The STP product may be overpriced if not on discount/sale, but I got great result with their diesel fuel treatment before. Definitely make the diesel car less smoke (non DI diesel engine) and accelerate faster and smoother.
